I know this may sound silly, but is it "normal" to get a lot of carbon build up on the exhaust tips of a MCS??

I have friends with other turbo cars, and they have had similar issues, but I just thought it was normal.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Mine is pretty black on the tips. I polish it as much as I can when I wash it. Never had that problem on my STi.

 

My friend has a MazdaSpeed6 and his tips were always filthy....I have heard of folks having carbon issues, and was hoping all was well....haha....

 

I would think that carbon on the exhaust tips is a good thing.....it's getting blown out of the engine?

I am more worried about passing emissions testing in NC.....

How do you guys clean that part of the exhaust? Just soap and sponge?

 

I use soap and water. I have also used Windex once it is mostly clean, so that the chrome shines!

 

Same here, a little of build up.. I did not know the reason for it to be there, I am glad I found this thread..

I usually clean mine with WD4..

 

My guess would be that there's some carbon blow-out when starting up from cold, and idling when the fuel mixture is enriched.

I've found that the stuff washes off easily with a soapy sponge during my regular wash routine.

I believe it is the same thing....If I wash it then go on a long drive there is not much build up, but if I am continuously cranking it up when I run around town doing errands it builds up much quicker.

I also like your WD40 idea. I am going to try that tonight when I give Rufus a bath.
