Moving to Boulder from Chicago
Moving to Boulder from Chicago
Hi there,
I'm moving to Boulder from the Chicago area. I've been a member of a Chicago club for the past 2.5 years. I have a 2008 Clubman; more details will follow...
Much club activity in the Boulder area? I drove out for MITM in 2009 (yes, I missed the big activities this summer
), and it was a great time. I'm sure I'll become a MINI5280 member once I move out.
Just thought I'd write to build my confidence in making the move to Colorado!

Great! Just started to follow you, I'm @kbleicher32. I probably won't be in the area 'til mid-November, but I'll be sure to touch base! Thanks!

Cool! I'll be on the lookout for your BRG/BRG Clubman.
There is a lot of MINI5280 activity near Boulder. We start a lot of club rides from the Broomfield RTD Park and ride parking lot.
If you are here by November 6th you can come to YALLA YALLA, the clubs annual scavenger hunt ride.

I agree that MINI activity is picking up around Boulder.
I am up there all the time when I am not at work. The canyons are amasing, there is camping close, and 5 minutes out of town in either direction you could get away from everyone else.
Hope to see you around.

A good amount of MINI activity in this area.
Look at our club calendar to see what is current. We try to alternate north to south, etc.... For rides and gatherings.
Welcome to the area, try to make Yalla, if you can.

I was born and raised in Boulder, moved to Chi-Town for five years after graduating from CU. It can be a tough place to live from time to time (read winter), but there's no place on the planet like Chicago.
But that's what quick swings through the Windy City are made for. No endless winter, and all the fun spots I used to enjoy! :-)
hey, stop by Lou Malnatis for me and grab a pie before you head out of town!!!
best pizza in the WORLD!
i'll trade you, 1 Lou's for free admission and meal at this years Yalla Yalla :p
(( and mebbe some spare change to make up the huge difference :p ))

@d0r33t0s, thanks for that ;-) You didn't have to go naming names. Now I'm really missing the Windy City.
We used to swing by Lou's at least every couple of weeks. My last meal every could easily be there.
(So, one of my friends had a connection at LM's, and he wound up with a few of the original LM pizza pans. Something coveted by LM fans.)

Wow! Great replies everyone! Thanks for making me feel welcome already!
I lived in Boulder from 1998 - 2000; that's why I want to come back.... Really miss the place.
And I'm going to just miss Yalla Yalla
I'm not getting in 'til the next week.
Any feel for the better Mini dealership? Schomp or Loveland? I hear it'll be good to get adjusted for the altitude (the Mini too
).... Ralph Schomp participates in MITM, right?

I can only offer an endorsement of Schomp MINI, as that's the only MINI dealer (in CO) I've used so far. I give Devin Scott (and Erik, who moved from service desk to being a mechanic) my highest recommendation.
Looking forward to hearing what others say about MoL, which I have to assume is excellent too.

DITTO!! I think we need to hang out Matthew, we can revel in all the glory that Chicago has to offer. BTW, I'm thinking about ordering some Chicago flag grille badges? You interested? They're cheaper if I order a bunch.
You can get it sent to you. It's almost as good as the restaurant but shipping is EXPENSIVE since it comes with dry ice.

Welcome! Sorry you can't make Yalla Yalla, but I look forward to seeing you at some of our other upcoming events.

A grille badge might be interesting. Any photos?
So, I've ordered a few JM pizzas that way. If someone is desperate, I'd say do it, but it's not like eating it fresh from the oven...in Chicago.
A friend of mine opened the Colorado Rosati's. I'd say it's a better choice than JM's frozen pizza. Just one pizza-fanatic's opinion:

Ha! We just might have to find a time to grab lunch, or something!

No way! We've missed Rosati's just as much.
Which one? Wadsworth or Zuni?
I think I've found next month's meeting location.
As far as the grille badge goes, we saw someone with it at MITM this year, you can get them from Cooperflags. Let me know if you're interested; like I said they get cheaper the more you order.
EDIT: I think, maybe it's just for custom ones.

Personally I prefer Giordano's (or even Uno's) over Malnati's, but this is going to get ugly if I champion it too much (I like the more buttery, dessert-pie-like crust).
At the same time, I'm going to be quite happy with the pizza and beer selection at Old Chicago's on the Pearl Street Mall (esp. when i can kick back outside and see the foothills).
Looking forward to meeting folks...

Mmm OC's, I cant wait to get outa this desert again.
As for MINI dealerships my choice is Schomp. When I broke my S/C belt a couple weeks ago on leave, Their service department even though they dont sell the tensioner tool was atleast willing to order me one, and M/L wasn't even willing to do that they said only an authorized MINI dealer/repair shop could change the belt.
Then a day later when I thought my RMW header was FUBAR when the O2 sensor striped out, the parts department was willing to stay open long enough for me to drive the 30 miles in traffic on I-25 so I could pick one up the same day, Eric even let me take home a tap to rethread the O2 bung in the header.
As far as I am concerned Colorado still only has one MINI dealership.

When do you make it into town?
A Boulder / Westminster / Broomfield / Louisville / Lafayette GTG is in order!
Good to see another Clubby; great color combo!
