Standard Sterio to HK Sterio System

Okay all you radio techies.

I need some help here.

Current:
2003 NON-S Cooper
Radio : Standard Radio System
CD Changer : NONE

Here is what I want to do:
I want to upgrade to the HK System that was offered by Cooper.
I want the OEM CD Changer.

Please: I do not want any suggestions as far as aftermarket units. I am an OEM die hard fan and really want to stick to OEM systems.

Does anyone know how to do this install and conversion?
Here are a few questions I have,

1) Is the car pre-wired for the CD Changer or do I have to purchase a wire harness and install from the dash board to the back of the vehicle?

2) Is the wire harness clip that is used for the standard radio the same clip that plugs into the HK radio. Meaning the plug that plugs into the head unit. (I do not want to cut/splice wire harness in the vehicle)

3) Where does the HK Amp install in the vehicle? Is the vehicle pre-wired for the amp or do I have to install a wire harness for this?

4) Is the head unit the same for the Standard compared to the HK system? They all look the same to me.

5) The speakers for the standard stereo. The mounts for these speakers are they same as the speakers for the HK System? Do I need additional mounts anywhere in the car or is the car already made with the mounts? I don't want to cut any sheet metal or replace any interior parts?

Thanks for your help guys.

Don't do it!
H/K is very different car and door stereo wiring, very complex and expensive to update.
Better by far is to seek out the DPSM kit which is a plug and play and impressive upgrade kit from MINI ...

There is the retrofit kit # 65130029635. If you want to stay original, that might be the way to go, though expensive.

Also check out HK Retrofit COMPLETE!!

Have to agree with GBMINI on this one, he knows what he is talking about. It is a very time consuming and laborious adventure that will cost you a lot more than an aftermarket system. Just not worth it in the long run. DPMS (which is OEM) is a better solution that sounds pretty darn good as well. Skip HK....

HU's are all the same in the MINI. HK folks get another menu activated when it is plugged up.

CD Changer is a waste, but if you want it then you need to look in your boot on the right side behind the panel. THere should be a bundle of wires there and one with a clip. 2003 is hit and miss and you may not have the harness.

HK amp installs on the right side in the boot.

Speakers are a direct swap.

Harness will need to be replaced which means you are going to have to tear the car apart.

Good luck!

I went to a very good mobile music shop and had them look at the car. first of can't do anything separate like upgrade front speakers or ????? So we build a system that would do the job, not a killer system just a good system. $2000 installed and for that you get all new pieces so nothing is reused from the mini system.

It sounds great and bumps the power to 125 watts a corner and 300 for a sub. I really hate these new car systems were they have to send a low voltage signal to the speakers for them to work at full power.

I looked at the DPMS system and it has promise but we'll see, first a reduction pulley ;-)
