Sound Overhaul

To begin, I have a 2005 Cooper S with H/K, no nav. My driver door woofer has begun to fade in and out so I want to swap out all the speakers, but still retain the stock amp (if I have to). I've been doing a lot of reading the past couple days and I haven't found anything too conclusive yet. I've read some yes's and no's and I just don't know where to begin.

I would like to know if it is possible to just swap the speakers without hacking up wiring harnesses? I know that the factory speakers are running at 2 ohms and I have found a set of Infinitys that state they run at 2 ohm impedance, but 4 ohm with wiring impedance. Is this a straight swap or no?

Does anyone have any insight to my issue here? I'm looking into upgrading the head unit also (I was going to do this first until my speaker started fading).

I decided to call Crutchfield today to get some insight on my issue here since I'm still completely clueless about this system. I explained to the two people I talked to (made sure I got the same answer and I did) that my system factory system is a 2 ohm system and that I need 2 ohm speakers for everything to perform efficiently. From what Doug and Rachel both told me, I can get the Infinity Kappa 50.9cs Component System I was looking at with little to no problem installing. Both stated that my door speakers are full range speakers. They said that I will take the wires from the lower woofer, wire them into the crossover that comes with this system and from there that crossover will split the low/mid to the lower door, and the highs to the tweeter, leaving the factory tweeter wires unused. I've been reading about how the amp has built in crossovers and I asked if this crossover can be used inline from the lower door speaker wire to power both new speakers and both agreed with the question I asked back to them. They both said yes, that is correct, you take the lower door wires, to the INPUT on the crossover and out to the speakers.

Does this sound correct to anyone? I want to make sure this will work before I start buying speakers that aren't going to even push out sound.

Any insight will greatly be appreciated!

-Connor
