Mini Credit Card and $10,000 cash back?

So I have the Mini Visa card and listed as one of its perks is up to $10,000 cash back for purchasing a new Mini and financing with Mini Financial Services.

Can someone explain how this deal works? Would I be getting statement credit or points to be used at the service/parts department?

I attached a link for the cashback info.

Pretty much all the information is in the link you gave. Be sure to click on the terms and conditions link.

From what I understand:
You get 2 points for each $ spent for a few certain things like fuel, and 1 point/$ for everything else. Every 5000 points can be redeemed for $50 which can only be used for certain things, MINI service / parts etc.

OR save the points for a MINI purchase or lease.

To get the full $5K off of a MINI purchase, ($10K if you finance through MINI), you would have to spend between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00 on the card. (Within 5 years, the points expire in 60 months first in first out).

Some of the fine print....
If the merchant does not enter the correct description for what you buy then you won't get the correct points added. For example if you buy fuel and the Quick Mart but the credit card statement shows Munchies then you will not get credited with the double points for the fuel purchase.

I got the MINI card as soon as they came out. Initial terms were good and I thought it was cool having a card with my car's picture on it. I didn't use it that much but when all of the new laws pertaining to consumer credit were about to take effect this year and last, their terms changed too much. I called to cancel and they didn't even try to talk me out of it. Anyone spending $500K on their credit card in the timeframe allowed to get the discount probably won't be buying a MINI.

not worth the effort

They auto approved my card when i got my financing last year.

Then it took me about 6 months to get a card I didn't really want, as they claimed I didn't give them an address. I had decided it would be a neat idea to put all car expenses on 1 card and use the points on the car.

All in all - the most hassle for a poor card. I didn't even have the option to change the card to my card picture. Their website is antiquated too. You can't even see a complete transaction history, so you had better keep all your paper statements...

I have to agree with some of the others here, I got the card, it had my car on it which was cool, but I had "issues" with payments being posted on time - I paid the full balance every month and used it for everything I bought and amassed $250 in credits to be used at my MINI dealer in only a year. But I had to argue with them on two different occasions when they wanted to charge me a late fee and interest on a zero balance, or on a payment they claimed didn't arrive on time, even tho I paid the bill in full each month the day I got it.

This bank doesn't allow electronic payments, and since I only bank that way my bank was cutting them a check and mailing it to them. Convenient and easy for me, but either Mr. Postman wasn't doing his job or the bank was slow cutting a check or they just weren't crediting them hoping I'd not notice the $39 charge.

Bottom line, the third time it happened I cancelled the card.

But it was fun while it lasted, and I did get $250 worth of "free" work and parts at my MINI dealer, and it didn't cost me anything since I paid it off each month in full.

I got the card just to have a card with a picture of my MINI on it just to show off. Never used it.

You weren't the only one. I didn't even use mine very much but twice they claimed my payment was late, even though I had mailed them in a timely fashion, and every other check mailed on those days had cleared in just a couple of days. Both times were payment in full too, makes you wonder if they try to gig you for something since they're not getting any interest payment. They took the late charge off both times with a phone call, but that was enough for me too.

I just received the application in the mail today. After reading your experiences I've decided not to get the card.

Thanks!

"I" have the card and use it for everything, from showing off Molly to actual purchases, like Fuel, Car Repairs, Mods., Accessories, and personal purchases. I don't see what's wrong with having the card, I'm trying to save up for Molly's Driving Lights in October, I want to have at least $500 in points by then, yes I know Driving Lights are double that, but at least I'll have a bit of MINI Mula to help with the $$. I also have a very good interest rate!!

I have the card for when I do not want to use the debit card. It has 7.9%. Then I found out I have a $50.00 credit to use at my Mini dealer. I really wasn't aware of the awards program. I can't see why some people think this is a bad thing.

Reminds me of back years ago when I had a Discover card.

I use to get my bill just two or three days before the due date. When I came home from work, and found a Discover bill in my mail, I would have to grab my check book and run out to my Post Office right then, if I was going to have any chance of getting my payment in, in time.

The last straw was the bill I got with the PO mark on its envelope showing it was actually mailed by Discover after the due date. I cancelled that card.

Too bad there aren't laws with stiff penalties (prison time for execs) for CC companies that play these kinds of games.

I have the card but never used it. The rewards plan is OK, (if you don't carry a balance), but, what borders as deceptive was the 'bait' offer to get $5K to $10K off of the purchase of a new MINI. See post #2. Impossible for average person to even come close to that. For me I could probably earn maybe $200 rewards a year but I have no plans on spending the reward money at a MINI dealer anyway.
Others complained about the billing service. Unwarranted late fees etc.

Mini always billed me too close to the due date. I could not get the payment to them on time even when paying the day after receiving the statement. It had to go to Salt Lake City from the east coast. Its "cute" that you can put your Mini on the card, but, its not cute to pay for it when they claim not getting payment on time. I cashed in my points for tires at the dealership and the card now sits unused. I will not use it ever again.

They got my car wrong on the card so I ripped it up. Besides, don't need another card in the rotation.

I get my credit card bill weeks before it is due. They must have changed this before I got mine.

I have this. I'm decent at math. It's not a good card really. We did it
as an experiment (it is our only CC) to see if we put EVERYTHING on it how
much would we move toward a new mini. Not much.

For those with payment issues - I pay online. The money leaves my account within
the day, but, I am not credited with it at MINI for 8 days. I asked them about it.
Yes, we hold your money for 8 days.
So basically 8 free days of interest to them, each time, times however many millions
of people.

I think I'm going to check into USAA and see what they can give me on a rewards card.

So does your account indicate your payment is credited 8 days after you pay it?
I just checked mine 2 minutes ago. I made a payment on 7/24, online. It says payment credited on 7/24.

I have used mine 4years with zero problems. Last year when I traded I got $700 in my credits and $700 matching for financing through them. So it was 1400 toward new Mini. I pay off balance every month. It is only card we use. My problem is it has picture of first Mini, and only way to change seems to be new card with new numbers.
