October Run

Okay gang. . .I think we have all recovered from our wonderful Fall Fun Run so on to the next event!

For our October event we have two choices: we can do a night time run to the Bell Witch Cave (cue spooky music) OR we can hit up the Jack Daniel's BBQ competition on the 23rd (cue scent-o-vision).

Pros and cons, you ask? The nighttime tours of the Bell Witch Cave are $25 per person which could be a budget buster for those of us watching our nickels and dimes but it does seem to be a more October/Halloween type event. The BBQ competition is free admission (donations to the area schools are suggested and appreciated), we could tour the distillery (also free!) and I here that 'downtown' Lynchburg is quite nice, too.

I've linked to both below. . .let me know what you all think!

We did a JD tour a couple years ago with the club and it was really cool. If you let them know ahead of time, they will reserve a parking lot for a specified amount of MINIs and even do a "Welcome MINI Club" sign on the lot. I can only do Sunday events because of my work obligations, but sounds like fun for you guys.

Thanks for the info, John!

I like the Bell Witch idea but the more I look into it the more I'm leaning towards the JD idea. Seems like it would appeal to more folks.

It would be cool to have our own reserved parking spots right at the distillery but I wonder if they would do that while the BBQ competition is there. The site says they have people park at the high school and bus them over to the distillery.

ps - I think we may have some friends in common. . .the Robbins'?

So. . .nobody wants to go the Bell Witch cave or the JD BBQ it would appear.

How about a 'redux' of the ice cream run for those who missed out? It was a super fun drive that I think most would enjoy. We could do a mid morning run with an affordable (read 'cheap!') lunch stop in either Franklin or Murfreesboro. If we lunch in Franklin then we might even talk about going down the Trace a bit afterwards.

I'll approve it right away and you can post ideas there. Are you talking about Michael and Katie by chance?

I don't have Facebook . Guess I have to sign up now.

Yep, Michael and Katie! Katie and I used to work together. She saw my MINI at a baby shower a couple months ago and asked me if I bought it from you. And then she made the mistake of asking me about the Dragon. . .hahaha!

I'm in for just about anything. But I already have plans for the weekends of the 23rd and 30th.

Hey Dawn. Sorry just now responding. It sounded like the folks that went on the last ice cream run enjoyed it. I'm up for that. The 23rd is clear for me. Too bad about Hal. Did you know that there is a Mini run at the Dragon that weekend as well. I have yet to get mine on that sweet road.

BTW, this is steve. I did not change out of Kimberly's profile.

Hal had mentioned an Oct event on the Dragon. . I guess that's it. That is a bit far for just a day trip, though. It's more of an overnighter.

I think an ice cream run redux would be fun. . .I could even extend the run a little and add some more twisties.

Just in case you're really interested in going to MINIs Slay the Sleeping Dragon, here's a link to Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club.
