R53 Battery is STUCK, anyone else have this problem?
Hello friends!
My battery has been dying a slow death the last 2 weeks. Yesterday the car almost didn't start. I popped the trunk & took a look at the little battery window. It's still got a factory battery from 03 so it wasn't a big surprise when the little window was fully black. So, time for a new battery.
I drop by AutoZone this morning & buy a new one to swap in. Socket set in hand I disconnected the terminals, un hooked the top of the tie down strap & had trouble loosening the bottom of the strap. The really long bolt turns but it clicks when it does. So I figured something was sticking & tried to give the battery a twist to loosen everything up.
I can't budge the thing! It will not move side to side, I can't tilt it, nothing. It's like the bottom is glued down. Then I noticed what appears to be epoxy spread all over the bottom of the well. Is this a factory thing to prevent rusting? Or am I just in a whole heap of problems via the previous owner getting this battery out...

Ok, problem fixed. A long pry bar & 2 people fixed the problem right quick.
However, there is some sort of super sticky, thick, gooey, goop at the bottom of the battery well. I'm gonna ignore it for now and go on with my day.

ummm
that suggests the original battery was leaking and you want to clean that crud out 110 percent else it will eat thru the floor . . . .
or you are a troll cuz this is a VERY basic issue . . . .

That stuff is likely to corrode the bottom of the battery box. Warm water & baking soda will neutralize the acid that has leaked there. You don't want to ignore it.
Jezz Capt 600 posts & you think he is a troll.

It's not acid, the old battery didn't show any signs of leaking at all. It smells like burnt coffee & has the consistency of caramel & breaks down in water. So I think someone (wife) spilled stuff back there & won't own up to it. I'll clean it out in a few days, I just didn't have the time to fiddle with it yesterday.
Good to hear it was just a mess that needed cleaning.

It is not 4 periods in a row. This is a VERY basic issue…
