I'm looking for suggestions/advice in purchasing a set of winter rubber for my MCS. I currently a set of the Pirelli eufori@ runflats mounted on S-Lites, but after last weekend's snow flurries, I found they are abysmal in snowy conditions. So back to my original query...

Is there anyone out there with experience with any of the all-season or winter runflats out there? Would I be better off just getting the Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport fitted to my current 17-inch S-Lites, or should I go the 16-inch wheel route, and get a set of the all-season Dunlop SP 5000 DSST's or Pirelli Winter 210 SnowSports? In case you hadn't noticed, I am keen to keep the runflats.

I guess its up to you whether or not you want the S-Lites to be goin through all the salt and snow. It would be a good idea to keep your S-Lites as your summer set and to get some decent 16" wheels with the snow tires and not worry about the salt hurting the finish of the wheel.

I use the same year round. Of course I'm in Lakeside (near San Diego, CA)

Our snow comes down pre-melted.

Yeah, I am keen on getting a second set of wheels and rubber for the winter months. Keep my S-Lites in the best possible shape. Unfortunately, here in Chicago, we get more than prepackaged snow. And those Pirelli eufori@'s don't work that well in the snow. Cheers!

 

If you get an MCS it's coming with Run Flats, right?

Is there a problem (other than not have a spare) with then getting "normal" wheels and winter tires for our winter months?

How small a diameter wheel still fits on an MCS?

 

No kidding, the runflats are horrible in the snow. 15 inch steels/alloys fit the cooper s no problem. Thats what I plan on for next year. This winters snow tires for me are the weather channel and my old beat up toyota 4x4 pickup with a few hundred thousand miles. I watch the weather channel in the morning, if there's snow in the forcast, I leave the mini in the garage and drive the old pickup. Every time it snows I look forward to getting back into the mini. That pickup gets 14mpg and can't break 70 with a tailwind.Great commuter! But it refuses to die and keeps passing inspection.
