alternative stubby antenna (shark fin style) for $10

If anyone was looking for a stubby antenna but wanted to see other alternatives to the common 3 inch rebranded black stubby, this might interest you.

It's not just a dummy antenna cover, it's functional. You thread a screw though the eye of the wire to connect it to the base of the antenna mount. If you're worried about antenna length, you could probably squeeze about an extra foot worth of steel wire in there too.

I took my S2000 antenna off about a month ago when I was doing some work. I liked the look with it off so much, I haven't put it back on yet!!
I'm not worried about getting a signal because I have an iPod/iPhone docking station in my car I only listen to that or Pandora. I never listen to radio stations anymore.

Ditto. I take mine off to put my surfboards on, and this last time I just left it off. I get decent signal and I primarily use my iPhone and pandora. I do like the idea of plugging the threads up so they don't corrode in the event I ever want to put the antennae back.

Water was getting in the car by the antenna, it was running between the base and the cap of the antenna and coming down from the wires! I took it off and I have a plug for the moment! I like the look without it! But I have a shark fin waiting to be installed, i'm just too lazy to search for a new nut since the old one doesn't have the same threads!!

I hear you. I was thinking of plugging the threads as well. So far down hear on the beach I haven't seen any signs of rust. What I'm thinking though is maybe a short screw that can thread down in it.

I forget the proper size screw you need. I did that for a bit. I bought a short black screw and a black tall rubber washer (5mm) to make sure there was a good seal. It was about 25 cents and kept water out of of the threads pretty well.

04 OEM Sat Nav Antenna

I just recently purchased the OEM 04 Sat Nav Antenna for my GP and had it painted Pure Silver. It was a steep price like $187, but it was the cheapest price of all the West Coast dealers and there was only 4 in the world left. I want to gut my GP's antenna internals (FM) and Siruis Antenna so I can place them in the OEM 04 Sat Nav Antenna cover. Any tips, suggestions or help would be welcome.

Thanks!! I'll take the antenna with me to Lowes and verify the thread size. I didn't even think of using a rubber washer.

I liked the idea of a shark fin antenae, but they are so tiny! If someone made one that was as tall as the stock antennae, that'd be cool!

A full sized shark fin, yeah!

You could try and fabricate one out of fiberglass yourself. It might could work for you.

What? You don't like the 'au naturel' color? How about doing it in carbon fiber?
