Garmin recall

Everyone please note Garmin is recalling a few nuvi's for batteries that catch fire.
Check out your serial number on their web.

My 260W was not on the recall list.

Thanks for the post. I checked and mine was not to be recalled. I did not think I had any problem because this 260W works perfect and I like the nice Ladies voice.

My 260W IS one of the ones to be recalled. The process is as painless as possible under the circumstances. Garmin is generating a shipping label to return the unit and will ship it back at their expense. It is a bit of an issue because I use the unit a good bit (I'm better than 1K miles from home right now).

Still, I don't want to think of the lithium battery catching fire on my dashboard. If you've never seen a lithium battery fire (most of us who fly R/C airplanes have), well, they burn about like a road flare -- very hot. The car would not survive a lithium battery fire.

I'll most likely go buy a replacement GPS before I ship it back.

That's probably exactly what Garmin hopes I'll do.

Why can't garmin just alert those who registered theirs via email, since they have all your information including email when you registered? We still get stuff from VW on multiple recalls even though we sold that POS almost two years ago. Seems fairly straightforward if they really cared if their product can burn people alive.

Actually they might have done that. I logged into mygarmin, I'm not on the list, but I think they did at least try to contact those that have the bad ones.

They ill repair it if it is defective.

Most company's will have the person owning the product check to see if they have a defective unit for the main reason that people will sell stuff, won't register stuff, or give the units away as gifts and the receiver won't register the item.

You hear about a recall and either just type in the serial # or give them a call to see if your unit is on a list. ""IT IS SO EASY A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT""

lololololol i'm thinking 10 years ago it was that easy.
I was also only thinking of my case in particular.
I can not see the S/N on the garmin with my current glasses.

So I'm like (to myself) sonofa......now I gotta go outside, wrestle that thing
off the permanent mount....find something in the house to light/magnify the S/N...then check the website.

With that hurdle I'd rather just become an inferno. hahahahahah

Hey Condor27596

You know you will not be on the recall list after you go through all of that trouble reading the serial number.
