My first 2 new owner questions/ brief intro
Hello all,
It's been nearly a week since I drove off my new 2010 MC from the dealer parking lot. I drove a classic Saab 900 conv. before, (still own it and love). This is the first new car I ever bought. I have to say within the first half hour I felt as if I've been driving this car for years. I am very pleased with this machine, and hope to make good use of it for years to come.
I am strictly using this vehicle for commuting, and therefore will be putting some considerable mileage on it.
I would like to ask the rest of you concerning two things:
With 500+ miles on the OD, I have noticed a significant build up of brake dust on the front rotors. (not for braking much, just steer out of the problem kinda guy)
while stopped @ red light with foot on brake and clutch (in gear) on an INCLINE the rear brakes sticks for a second or two, while I apply throttle to get moving. ( is this a safety feature )

BMW/Mini's brake pads are very soft and will tend to dust all of the time. You will find yourself cleaning just your wheels on a regular basis. And the 1-2 sec grab is the hill assist feature, pretty neat, eh?

Hate the brake dust... inexcusable, really... plenty of high-performance/low dust pad materials for BMW to choose from.

The brake dust will not accumulate *quite* as bad after a few thousand miles, but will probably be worse than you'd like. The Germans are notorious about using "dirty" pads, which are generally better-performing pads than "cleaner" ones.

Yes that is an annoying cleaning chore of the wheels to wash. I wash the wheels first and change my water out. I use simple green (yellow one) to clean and then use ONLY ZAINO for the wash and wax on my MINI> As for the brake assist....awesome in San Francisco!!!--enjoy and welcome to the MINI world. --Stacy

A long time ago I was the service manager for a Porsche dealership, the 924 had just been introduced and the brakes squeaked like crazy. One day the factory srevice rep came thru town and I asked him why Porsche's brakes made so damn much noise when those on a 280Z or a Celica didn't.
His reply? "Ve build ze brakes to stop ze car"
End of story!
