Where is the ECM?

Would someone tell me where the electrical control module is located on a 2003 Mini Cooper S (left hand drive)? I was told it's under the passenger side floorboard but that doesn't sound realistic to me. I'm guessing it's in the passenger side compartment behind the dash somewhere? If so, do you have to remove any carpet to access the module?

In MINI terminology it is known by several names: General Module Control Unit, Body Control Unit, or BC1. It is located behind the side kickpanel in the passenger's footwell (analogous to where the fusebox is on the drivers side, but there is no access panel -- you have to remove the entire trim panel). It controls electrical things in the passenger cabin and exterior lights.

rkw is right if your looking for the computer that controls windows, lights, interior stuff

The Computer or ECU/ DME that is for the engine electronics is under the hood right next to the airbox.

Thanks. I'm trying to figure out if I got ripped off at my local Mini dealer. From what I've read my problem is nothing new. Left the car outside during a cold winter, sunroof drain somehow detaches itself, floorboard floods, ECM quits working properly. I'll take those issues up with Mini but the dealer charged me $636 to remove the carpet/backing to let it dry. It's easy to see that the carpet was never removed and the service response says they "pulled back" the carpet as best as possible. I now understand the removal of the kick panel but how they could "pull back" the carpet to accomplish any worthwhile drying without removing the sill plate, seat and any part of the center console?
Thanks again.

$636?? Sounds a bit high for movement of carpet. What am I missing here?
