Standard oil for r53

Had my oil changed at local mini dealer last week but it looks like right now I'm on the low mark on the dipstick. I'd like to put some in tomorrow but I am not sure what kind they used. Should I feel comfortable putting a full syn 5w30 in until I can get it back to mini?

If you just got it changed last week, I would take it back to the dealer and have them top it up. Unless you are having some severe problems, there is no way you would be down on oil. My guess is they didn't top it up.

I definitely wouldn't mix different types of oil, but that is my opinion.

yes top it off if you want to.i would rather have mixed oil than have it get too low if it's leaking or having a issue. just get a oil from their list of approved oils. BMW LL-01 i think it is you need.

MINI dealerships normally use 5w30 Mobil One If I'm not mistaken.

rather the BMW 5W-30. Which is the Euro Castrol (true synthetic).

Is this purchasable other than at a dealer?

Lets see, run a road trip low on oil or add some. I'm with the add some camp. Mobile 1 0w40 or 5W30 will work well. Buy a spare quart to carry along with you.

Have a great trip to MTTS in Indy.

#1...Stick with the factory recommended weight. Check your manual.

#2...You can mix synthetic with non-synthetic. No problem.

#3...Your Mini most likely already has synthetic in it.

#4...I wouldn't run anything BUT synthetic in any of my vehicles. I like them too much to run conventional oil.

#5...Buy a quality brand of synthetic. I run Amsoil in my JCW. It's simply the best oil out there, hype and marketing aside. (No, I am not a dealer.) Other excellent brands are Redline and Mobil 1.

near as I can tell, it's only available from the dealership.

technically, any oil that meets the ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-01 specs are fine. It's what the MINI/BMW calls for.

Like Mobil 1 0W-40 and Castrol 0W-30. Follow the specs, and you'll be just fine.
