You are only gonna get so much performance from a 1.6L engine.....start by reading up on what most of us have done here so far and make your own list.

You could contact this shop, the owner drives a MINI himself and should be well versed in what you seek regarding additional power.

I would also consider joining a local or area club such as this. They may be able to point you in some other direction closer to home.

You should really consider getting a Sube Sti, Mitsu EVO, or Mopar SRT-4
Not sure a MINI is proper platform for 10 second dragging stuff, there is much better suited cars for drag strippers and cheaper build costs

1) What year is the car you are looking at? That will dictate what you can do to it.

2) These cars are not good for straight-line speed, no matter how fast the Italian Job made them look The speed to these cars is in the turns. With a 1.6L engine, you're only going to get so much power and speed out of it regardless of how much you're willing to spend. Your money is far better spent buttoning down the suspension so you can really rock in the corners. A MINI will almost never be a great drag car...I think the best times we've seen have been in the low 12s (?), someone feel free to correct me.

From my own past experience of spending tons of money on mods for other cars and my current Mini I can tell you that you never get the money out of it that you put in. With that said, look at the marketplace here and find a car for sale that someone els has dumped all of their Money into already. You will have a better starting point for your goals and will save a bunch of $$$$!

Like others have said, these cars are not drag cars. If you put some extra power in them with added suspension tweaking you should be able to beat most cars on the street with your ability to handle the corners and accelerate out of them.

I know I am new here but I think I kinda see what you are going for here. It is starting to be very common to see 10 and 11 second eclipse and civics with 1.6 and 1.8L boosted DOHC motors. So yes it would be nice to pull up in something different and be fast while doing so. If I were to attempt this I would probably start with a supercharged MINI and twin charge it. Then put it on the bottle with cam and head work. Now with all that being said...The MINI world is very new to me so I have no idea what I am talking about but that is where my initial thought would take me.Then I would run the plan by someone who specializes in these cars and see what they think. Weight will probably be one issue you will have to address because I think these cars are rather heavy compared to a civic or crx

I would not go with a mini for this 10 sec car. Wrong choice of car IMO.

As it has already been stated here... you can only get so much out of a 1.6L engine.

Ergo, you sometimes have to take the road less traveled and look for innovative solutions to your problem and do like this guy did...

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!

Yes actually I do. Is that heavy for a newer modern car? No. Is 2500 lbs heavy for a 1.6L 4cyl 10 sec car? YES!

That is awesome...Insane but definately awesome
I am assuming that he comes from the import world. 10sec 1.6L civics with alot of boost is not unheard of. I know a guy that has a 10sec honda civic coupe and drives it every day.

there is/was a 2005 turbo converted MINI on ebay this week, which may be what you are looking for. It's one of the best put together turbo conversions I've read about...

MINI USA Press Release: Woodcliff Lake, NJ - August 15, 2008… After multiple rounds of testing and nail biting qualifying runs for PINKS ALL OUT at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, July 25th - 26th, the 650-horsepower MINI Cooper S drag racer, custom built by ABF Performance, emerged a crowd favorite and newly appointed giant killer. Piloted by Vincent Tennessee Kung, MINI USA’s Product Manager, the little “MINI That Could” took down car after car with multiple 10-second passes and trap speeds exceeding 135mph.
Officially the “World’s Quickest and Fastest MINI”, this Cooper S Hardtop has clocked a record-setting 10.48 elapsed time at 135.16 MPH, but not before sending home a Big-Block-equipped Camaro with a blistering start from PINKS ALL OUT host Rich Christensen’s “Arm Drop.” This incredible performance resulted from the collaboration between ABF Performance, MINI USA and MINI Financial Services. With its custom carbon-fiber bodywork and distinctive “Get Your Hands on a MINI” graphics (which shows two hands trying to grab the 1,750-pound race car) there is certainly no mistaking this MINI for any other car on the racetrack. Getting the miracle MINI into 9-second zone is just a few suspension tweaks away.

I would say this car is the exception to the rule...not sure anyone else ever came close to this.

Many times the answer isn't for the troll. It's for the serious owners who may gain insight or knowledge from the responses.
