I'm sure glad the dealer fixed their screwup on my car!!!!

Yup, kept my car for 2 weeks. Broke the passenger side door glass trying to adjust it. Told me the new glass would arrive Monday.

Well, it did arrive Monday.

Did they install it Monday? Nope.

Did they install it Tuesday? Nope.

Did they install it Wednesday?. Yup.

Did I get my car back Wednesday? Nope.

I waited until Thursday before I could get my car.

I was slammed at work so I sent my wife to pick it up. I told her to make sure there wasn't any damages to my car.
She brought it back and this is what I got.

Rt side windshield pillar....

Pieces of broken glass...

Note how the glass sticks out from the side moulding. I shouldn't be able to see the edge of the glass from behind the car.

Here's the gap between the driver's side door glass and the trim.

Here's the gap left by their installation on the passenger side.

I give up....

Wow Mark! I can't believe they would let something like that out of the dealership. I can see why you are angry!

The whole thing is ridiculous. My SA is a great person, she tries SOOOO hard and the problems aren't her but the result unfortunately.... is me getting screwed.

It seems almost everytime I take my car in, they break, scratch, damage something and when the car is taken in to fix the screw up, they do something else....

It really is ridiculous...

Aggggghhhh! Been there and done that and I feel your pain. But, you do know the old "send the wife to pick up the car" deal never works....right?

Oh hell to the NO! They would not want to see me coming... I try to treat others with kindness and respect...but don't ever mistake kindness for weakness. I would come up out of myself! They would know I was all up in that dealership...

I was going to take it apart and just fix it myself but I'm TIRED of fixing their damages. I'm going to drop it off and make them fix it. I stopped at the dealership and talked to my SA. She said to bring it in Monday and they'll fix it and give me a free detail.

I said NOOOOO, don't so much as wash it. I think my SA was just humiliated that something else was screwed up on my car. I actually feel bad for her.

Thanks, and never... I love my car. I hate my dealership. The funny thing is, they know I'm in the bodyshop business and how freakin' **** I am. Just why they don't check it out before I get it is beyond me.

Mark,

We have never met, just talked on the phone once and traded PMs. You sound like a great guy. And want to do the right thing by your customers. I know that you are in the body shop business but your entire industry has a bad rep for a reason; from the new car dealers to the even worse used car dealers to mechanics to body shops. For the most part they are all thieves and do crap work. I too got my car back the other day after being rear ended on the George Washington bridge by a box truck that pushed me into the car in front of me and caused a 5 car pile up. My car is about 98% of what it once was. But that is not good enough for me. I do not have the energy to fight with people any more. Why can't people be honest and just do a good job and make believe that the car they are working on is theirs.

At least you can fix your own car. I do not have the skills or tools to do so.

I dunno... I've been in the bodyshop business for over 25 years and my shop is word of mouth referall only. No ads, no phone books, no direct repair for insurance companies.

I can count on less than one hand over the last 14 years how many unsatisfied customers I've had.

It's really a simple idea... customers are paying me to do a job. They're doing ME a favor, not the other way around, THEY chose to spend their money at my shop... all they want is to get their car fixed. Nothing less, nothing more.

Charlotte has a TON of bodyshops. I mean TONS!!!! There is maybe half a dozen I'd trust my vehicle with.

Sad....

It may be time to stop and have a cordial chat with the dealership owner or general manager. Perhaps an experiential exchange as business owners/managers on customer satisfaction and service delivery. First pointing out the exemplary aspects of your experience at their business and then the not so satisfactory elements of your visits there, with perhaps a suggestion or two on how those not so satisfactory elements could have easily been satisfactory.

Who knows, they may hire you as a consultant to audit their shop practices and provide suggestions on how to improve them!!

....Les

BTW....we'll be in Charlotte Friday next visiting Hendricks MINI and NASCAR HOF. In which direction should we wave?

You know, I've always been one not to hold my tongue... I just don't give a damn and if something's wrong, it's wrong and someone needs to say something.

The problem is as a bodyshop, I use their dealership for parts. As a customer, they are the closest dealership. It already takes 3 weeks to make an appt., I can't imagine the crap I'd get if I left poor marks on their csi reports.

You probably won't have to wave far. One of my bodyshops does all the Acura work in town and since the mini/bmw preowned and acura dealership are all on the same piece of property, it's not uncommon to see me zip through Hendrick Mini several times a day.

Enjoy your visit. If you need anything when you get to town, you can call me, I'll be glad to help. (704) 882-1150

Yuck, that sucks. I feel for ya - I'd be disgusted. Actually, I am disgusted. I hate that feeling in your gut when you see your car damaged and you know you didn't even get to be the one to cause it by having some questionable fun, haha.

All I can say is....when people show you who they are...BELIEVE THEM! That dealer, by employing careless nutjobs, is indicating that they in fact DO NOT care if you are a customer. If I made mistakes like that with my clients, I would be FIRED. But before that even happened, I'd quit. Why do people even bother doing a job if they can't do it correctly at even some sort of base level of competency? When people show you who they are (despite what they might say), you should believe them, and act accordingly. Unfortunately for many people in the U.S. that means no MINI's unless you want crappy service. Good thing is, as nice as MINI's are, other equally as fun replacements exist (Miata, GTI, A3, TT, maybe even Fiesta Turbo soon). And if MINI doesn't start shaping up and making better cars and getting control over their dealers, they will have to keep offering $149/month lease specials to move product.

I know our MINIs are fun cars, but I don't know how you still have it after being through so much crap at the dealership. I've been tempted to get rid of it countless times after dealing with dealership crap and stupid stuff happening with my car, but it's nowhere near what you've had to deal with. It really shows your dedication to the car.

I guess my thoughts about my car might be different had I bought a JCW and not my slowpoke.

I am holding my tongue as well. Next time I go in for a problem, I do not want to get the car back with the dreaded sorry could not reproduce your issue or sorry we are not covering that due to your mods or any other non-sense they come up with. And I hope you guys are reading this.
