Buying a 2010 R57! Am I missing anything?

Hi everyone!

Getting very excited because it looks like there is a high probability I'll be getting a Mini Convertible in August.

Here's what I'm looking at right now

2010 Mini Cooper S Convertible
- 6 Speed Manual
- Any color (but it has to be a color - white/silver are not colors)
- Black Bonnet stripes - because they make the car go faster
- 16" Bridge Spoke Black with All Season Tires
- Premium Package (financing at least $10k gets you Premium or Sport(w/o wheels) package for free - HK & Alarm vs Headlights essentially)
- Cold Weather Package (seems like top down driving in the 40s/50s would benefit from heated seats)
- Center Arm Rest (as long as my arm can actually reach it, if not toss it)
- Cloth Seats (never been a fan of leatherette, not splurging on leather)
- Rear Fog Lamps (I live near San Francisco, might come in handy)
- Wind Deflector
- Floor mats (ideally the dealer throws these in free)

My Future Mini

Any thoughts? Would appreciate feedback.

I suggest laser blue...I like red but it attracts tickets and bad drivers. My mom always says that red attracts accidents. I have black bonnet stripes on my hyper blue but one time I saw a blue mini with metallic silver (chrome) stripes they looked so good...Reading your post makes me wanna build and buy a new MINI.

I do like the Laser Blue also, but currently I am indifferent between Red, Blue, Green, Yellow as long as the dealer won't charge extra and can find the options I want.

Having owned a red car before I do know that the insurance company charges higher rates based on color...that would lead me to believe your mother is probably on to something.

You mention Chrome stripes, are there more options than just Black & White? Can you go with any color?

I have a red pick up and it stands out way too much, and a dark silver R56 S. I would go with pepper white, it's very classy.

Before you Just do it......
I thought the Sport has 17"r's included.
Financing $10k should get you more...bargain. bargain and bargain. Especially in Aug. Competitively shop. I'd want the Premium plus more off the top.
Good luck whatever you end up with. Enjoy the ride and pride of ownership.

The current promotion by Mini Corporate is Auto (a waste), Premium, or Sport sans Wheel Upgrade. But when you take the wheel upgrade out of sport it's not worth much. I definitely plan on bargaining. The starting point is not MSRP. My plan was pay invoice and have them throw in the options. My local Mini dealer has 40 Minis on the lot. 24 are R57s. It is also the coldest summer in 40 years by us. And they start taking orders on 2011s in September.

I know it's not a color, but Pepper White with Black wheels/stripes looks pretty tops. JMHO

Here are my thoughts:

- Any color (but it has to be a color - white/silver are not colors)

I dig the laser blue as Tykoon suggested. If I didn't like the dark silver so much I would have picked BRG / Black.

- Center Arm Rest (as long as my arm can actually reach it, if not toss it)

I wasn't a big fan of the arm rest, but that's just me.

- Cloth Seats (never been a fan of leatherette, not splurging on leather)

The cloth seats in the MINI is like the best cloth seats I've ever felt. I bought off the lot and got leatherette, but I actually think it's fine. I agree, the leather is pretty pricey but for those who splurged, I am jealous of ya.

- Rear Fog Lamps (I live near San Francisco, might come in handy)

Definitely! It's not just the functionality either (I commute across the Bay Bridge every day and have gotten a chance to use them a couple times this year). I think the rear fogs give the rear a more "complete" look to me.

- Floor mats (ideally the dealer throws these in free)

Yeah, they should throw these in no problem.

Congrats on your future MINI. Hope to see you on the bridge!

I'd invest in a JCW aero kit.

I like your configuration (a lot like mine). Is that picture from the MINI configurator? If so, why not try it with the sport stripes instead and see if you like them. I got these because of the hood scoop and center dual exhaust.

Good thought, I'll have to see if I can find some good pics of the sport stripes. It's not possible to have them show up in the image on the Configurator.

you will be very glad that you got the black wheels once you drive the car some... the silver ones are filthy with brake dust after like 10 mins...

Hopefully not! I try to avoid the traffic around those damn bridges as much as possible Although cruising across the Golden Gate will be a must do, even if I don't have anywhere to go up there.

Looks great, but busts the budget. Maybe the dealer will do it free If I do this upgrade later, is it something I can do myself and does the price get ridiculous?

I saw this shot in the stripes thread...might have to get these side stripes to match the bonnet stripes:

Side stripes add to the Look. Do it. Make yours slightly different.

They do not, at least not anymore. When I was getting insurance quotes the color of my car never came up.

I used to own a red car too, and it was the same cost for any color version of it. That's an urban legend that people have been repeating forever now. Just google it.

I totally agree. I had 3 Red cars. Insurance is based on the zip code where it's parked and the drivers history.
