Drivetrain Throttle Controller Question
ebay D1 Spec Throttle Controller
I recently purchased a D1 spec throttle controller off ebay. However, the cable supplied has connectors that are not quite the right shape (supposed to fit many BMW models as well). The seller has confirmed he has sent the correct application. Anyone else have similar experience and if so did you modify the D1 connector? The stock mini connector is on the right.
Throttle Controller Question
I posted this on mini general but haven't gotten any responses. (I posted a photo of the D1 connector and the stock mini/bmw connector in the original post - search D1). Any help would be appreciated.
If youre serious on the switch...
cut the harness and solder it in. I've got a harness around and it may still have the original TB connector. PM me if your interested in it.

cable mods
I'm going to take a look at the D1 connector and perhaps get the dremel out as the good Dr. suggests. Daniele (a mini guy from Italy) says he did the same and made his work. To his credit the ebay seller got back to me and suggested the cable was for the BMW Mini only (uh-huh). Just a work of warning that the D3 spec throttle controller is not in fact, plug and play.
Thanks Dr. If I get out of control with the dremel - I'll pm you regarding that part of the harness. If my mods work out I'll post. If not I'll see if I can get my fingers reattached.

The Sprint Booster
is a money mint. The electronics content is very, very low. Yes, there is some cost to get the connector set up worked out, but it's minting money for the guys who do it.

What is it
As fatherdeth suggests, it is simular to a sprint booster. Much less expensive, greater level of adjustability (increasing AND decreasing signal), does not loose its setting when you turn off the car (powered through the OBD connect), and goes to stock setting when in reverse.
No, it's a device that amplifies the signal from the accelerator. Our cars use an electronic throttle versus a cable operated one. MINIs are notorious for having a delay in take off. These devices just amplify the signal to make it respond quicker.

Sorted
I took a closer look at the connector tonight. The male end was a fit, the female end was going to need some modification. I was able to separate the connector (the black one in the photo) into outer and inner (very easy - I used a dental tool to release a clip on each side of the outer connector). Once the inner connector was free it was easy to trim it to the correct shape using a razor/box knife. The connector material was hollow and made of relatively soft plastic. I trimmed away, occasionally test fitting it to the throttle peddle (which I had sitting on my desk). Modifying the connector took all of 5 or 10 minutes to make it fit. Once I got the control box wired up to the OBD port and calibrated it (easy) it was off on a test run. Seven sport settings, normal, and five retard settings (slow response to very very slow response) all from a small toggle switch. No codes thrown. So - the D1 Spec throttle controller does work with a little modification. I just saved myself some money to spend in the Market Forum.

Anybody? Bueller....?
The guide at the bottom shows that the plug on the right has a shorter curved piece as to the one on the left. the one on the left has to be trimmed on the top and bottom in the same place to fit. Both plugs are the same at the top and the bottom.
Did I explain that right?
I want one of these too. just have to save money for daddy's christmas so the kids get the stuff they want. lol.

I went ahead and winged it myself, complete with 100% Japanese directions. Install is a breeze, but will take you a bit longer trying to follow and properly set the controller via pictures only.
I found a link off a Honda Fit site that had the installation instructions in English (after the fact
) but I wanted to share them here to save any other D1 Spec buyers the trouble of deciphering the Japanese directions.
While the D1 Spec is not a power adder, it really makes a huge difference in throttle response and overall drivability. The only thing I am not a fan of is having to leave the controller plugged into the OBD port at all times. I've seen Y-adapters which will allow access to an open port, but they're pricey and that drives the overall cost of the $150 D1 Spec up towards the Sprintbooster levels of money spent. Just my $.02

My post right above yours lists what I paid back when I bought it. Check now for yourself to see what's current.

Hello xped,
Just wanted to know, the part of the D1 harness that goes to the Throttle Cable of the car, did that clip slide in completely or does it kinda stick out a bit?
Once you modify the D1 harness by shaving a tiny bit of plastic off to mate with the throttle pedal harness, it slips in perfectly. It really only takes 30 seconds per side to trim it and clean it up to fit spot on.
