Anyone install a MS-8 in the Mini?

I want to see if anyone has installed one yet. I have heard some really great things about this piece.

Seems like the Mini is a great candidate for this

for those of you who don't know about this piece here is a link

Looks interesting but $799?
And "Usually ships within 1 to 4 weeks."
Wow.
The best thing I did to improve my Mini's audio was a powered subwoofer - Infinity Basslink $135 from Amazon!!

Everyone that has used it so far says its the bees knees, I just want to see if anyone has put one in a Mini

I will be putting in a Focal Utopia Be 21WX and some matching fronts (kit no 6) to go with this processor

Did you power it from the 12 volt plug in the back or did you run a power wire to the battery?

I ran a fused 8 gauge to the battery. Tapped into the speaker wires at the stock amp in the rear.

I will be using the MS-8 to connect the standard HU up to my Denon amps and either using my old MB Quart QM21.61 plus QSC100 is a 3 way active set up with 6x9 rear fill or may look at replacing the speakers for something like Morel Supremo.

I was going to use a Bit One but have been impatientky waiting for the MS-8.

Did you order it yet from amazon for the $439 price ?, its a bargain.

I would consider 3 way but I am concerned about the midrange locaton , basically I would purchase a 3" Focal BE and add it to my Focal kit no 6 . I really would like to use the Crossblock crossover with the system and if I add the 3" then I will not be able to.

Where do you plan to get signal at?

I want to try and find a way to open up the factory radio and get come low volt outs on it, instead of having to run a knock down .

I think the amazon price is urban legend from DIYMA.....

Do you still have to do the channel swap to improve the sound of the rear bass 6X9s?

I ended up selling my ms-8 before i installed it

After much research I decided to go with a new processor coming out in the near future by a Italian company

The ms-8 is fantastic if you can fit a center channel and rears in your car

I was also a bit concerned about the bluetooth delay

So i never installed it

so it might work great

Would love to see Some results from mini owners

I have one going in over the next couple of weeks. The plan is to use the speaker level outputs from the front channels. I searched extensively before picking up the MS-8, and could not find anyone that has tried it yet in the Mini (surprising, with the inability to swap out the factory HU). I will let you know how it turns out.

Where are you putting the center channel?

What speakers and amps?

Do you have a game plan on the bluetooth issue ? Or do you not have bluetooth in your mini ?

I will not be using the Logic 7 for now, so no center or rears (might add at a later time). I have done several elaborate installs in the past, but the plan with the Mini is to keep it as simple as possible and maintain the integrity of the vehicle. I will be using a JL HD900/5 to run LPG tweeters in the a-pillar, Eton mid/bass in the doors, and an IDQ sub under a false floor in the boot. Sound deadning will be somewhat minimal to avoid adding weight: 36 sq ft of MLV, deflex pads behind the drivers, and a little CCF where needed. I do have bluetooth in the vehicle, but I refuse to own a cell phone or Ipod, so it will not be used.

I would be curious on feedback using the built-in amp . Jbl says it is a good one but we all know how that goes.

sounds like a nice setup ..I love IDQ subs and DIY components are always fun

Have you used MLV before?
What Deflex pad are you using?

I have head the logic 7 is one of the best parts of the MS-8 .

I have heard they will be coming out with a version with no amp

Cant wait for the feedback!

I will be running the Focl Be kit 6 with a 8" Focal Be sub
I have Mosconi amps and will be using the new processor (not a Audison bit one but in same ballpark)

I will be soundproofing with Black hole products(Foil,Tile ,Stuff) and using the Tiles in my door (they will help as a Deflex pad as well with the arrangement I will install them in)

one of the main reason I chose to go with the processor is it does not have or need a display for the front so I can keep a stealth look

That's some really nice gear. I always thought the Focal's were a little on the bright side, but nice drivers none the less. I heard a set of Utopia's a few years back at SBN, and they were impressive. The Mosconi amps look awesome - I have read nothing but good reviews on them, and they are certainly one of the best looking amps I have ever seen. I hope you put up a build log when you do the installation.

I'm not sure I would use the MS-8 built in amp for anything other than rears if I decided to go with the Logic 7. Not enough headroom. I have read mixed reviews on the Logic 7 - good on some music, not on others. The idea of using drivers behind you just doesn't seem right when doing stereo. I have tried Pro Logic II with my setup at home, and the results were awful. Not sure which Deflex pads are being used - I am having a professional installer do the work, since my fab skills are less than great. Will update once the build begins. Best of luck with yours.

Hopefully will be sorting out my install this year as now have all the parts.

MS8 will be feeding my 2 x Denon DCA760BL amps so have 8 channels of 120W Class A power feeding Morel Supremo 6, CDM54 and Supremo Picollo up front and Morel 6x9 in the rear via Chord Company cabling.

Just waiting for my installer to give me a window as those that are highly regarded over here get booked up well in advance.

And going to try and sound proof boot and under wheel arches myself to save some time and install cost.

What's the italian processor?

My Clubman is at the Dealership constantly for an idling issue. Once that gets resolved (some day) I'll be off to do the Audio install.

Looking to do 3" and tweeter in the a-pillars, mid-bass in the doors and a single 10" or 12" in the back. MS-8 processor, Tru Tech C7.4t (tube hybrid)amp and some sub amp. I've pretty much completed the fibreglass spare tire well enclosure and roughed together an amp rack. That's where things sit now. Should be interesting to follow this thread if we all keep posting up our progress.

Currently with installer, pick it up on Monday.

Supremo 6 in lower door and CDM54 in upper door. I have Morel Supremo Picollo which will require custom A Pillar fabrication or I can swap from Morel MT23 Tweeter which will fit in the Hifi A Pillars I provided. I would prefer the Picollo but this will add to install costs.

Rear Morel Tempo 6x9's have been rejected in favour of Morel Integra Ovation Point Source 4" coaxials for rear fill.

Hoping it will have enough low end for me with just the Supremo 6 as never ran subs and due to wanting boot space only sub options would have been running something like CDT's HD-690CF in the rear 6x9 area or the CDT ES06 and that would have meant no Logic 7.

Before install I listened to 2 x MS8 equipped cars and loved the Logic 7 compared to the one I heard with 3 way active and sub.

PS MS8 is going under left hand seat. My 2 x Denon DCA760BL amps fit (just) side by side in the boot. Probably goingto rum 1 amp for the Supremo 6 so 240W x 2 and other amps 120W x 4 to the Picollos (or MT23) and CDM54. Rear Logic 7 speakers will be fed from the MS8 onboard amp. So using all 8 channels, 6 channels of external amplification and 2 channels from the MS8 onboard amplification.

I'm very interested to find out how yours turns out. I had no luck with mine, and I am currently waiting for my backordered Bit One to arrive so I can pull my MS-8 out. I ended up with overwhelming sub bass, harsh tweeters, and almost no mid bass or midrange - sounded just awful. I had lots of help from both the tech support at JBL, and Andy Weymeyer (the guy at HK that developed the processor), and still no luck. I am told it is a problem with the software, and they are working on it, but for now I am SOL. Let us know how yours turns out. Link to my build thread if your interested:

Think I saw that but no mention of the MS8 not working for you.

Worried now

I wouldn't be to worried - there are lots of people that have gotten great results with the MS-8. It just sucks that if it doesn't work, there really isn't much you can do about it - other than use it as a $800 paperweight .

For some reason there is a whine via the tweeters. Tried searching and a few seem to have experienced this.

Is there a definitive answer as I hear things about grounds and also capacitors to be used on the tweeters?

Also think my installer has skipped the cd part due to the set up cd being blank. I believe this is only for non OEM HU's and cd must be used to accurately set up the MS8? I have burnt one in windows media player to take with me but he has a mac so told him how to do this via itunes.

Installer also commented on noise floor. Is this down to the S/N Ratio and guess this will never be as good as a Bit One or similar with higher S/N Ratio?

And lastly my Morel Supremo Picollo tweeters seem to large for the A Pillar in the mini so may have to go for MT23 instead which fit in the standard Mini Hifi A Pillars with tweeter mount.
