Temp Gauge

Hi guys, sorry if this is a re-post but I couldn't find anything on this in a search. Is there an engine temp gauge in the Mini S or any way to tell that the engine is fully warmed up before gunning it? The answer can't simply be that you have to buy the JCW gauges can it?

A quick answer is that the oil temp should come up to operational range before any beating you dish out. That usually lags about 5 to 10 minutes after the water temp moves to normal range. The oil is thicker until then and oil temp is a good way to gauge the temp of the engine.

Thanks for the replies. I guess what I am asking is; where is the gauge for either of these already on the car?

There is only a warning light for coolant temperature (overheating) no gauge.

You can access this information thru the OBD II port with a third party device such as a Scan Gauge ( http://www.scangauge.com/) these are sold by several of the sponsors on NAM.

My Camden's Mission Control notifies me when the engine is "warmed up and ready for action" - it's usually anywhere from 2-6 minutes after I start driving it (maybe 2 minutes in 80 degree temps and up to 6 minutes in colder temps).

Not sure if this means it's ready to participate in a heavy duty drag race... but it's surpising how quick it considers itself "warmed up".

LOL... yeah one of the things that I'd have designed differently ..I think that our MINI's (and all cars) should include these valuable guages ..yet I guess the way of the future is to warn of a problem rather than let you know what's actually going on?!

..install your own guages!
