R56 Arrival into port pushed back?
Arrival into port pushed back?
I've been checking the WW website and noticed the arrival into Port Hueneme has been pushed back 2 days from the 13th to 15th. Has this happened to anyone before and had the date pushed forward again. I have to drive 7 hours to get my car, so the weekend in which to pick it up is awfully close to being shut.
Thanks
Thanks
You are picking the car up from the dealer????
There are several reasons why the port arrival can be delayed and several more why an individual vehicle can be delayed at the arrival center. I'd not plan a p/up trip until the dealer had firm confirmation the car was on a truck and en route.

That's a good point. I am driving so there's some flexibility. I'm just hoping from port to dealer doesn't take more than than 3-4 days. The dealer is about 2.5 hours from port.

Wow, so if that were to happen, I suppose they would just make all the MINI's again? That would be pretty expensive. I suppose though, that they have insurance for those kind of things. But still, that would stink.
That would be crazy, all those cars damaged/ruined. What would they do with them?

Our Laser Blue MINI is aboard the Glorious Leader too.
Called MA 2 days ago, and he said our MCS will be ready for us about July 20th in Tacoma.
Hope so, found a buyer for the PT Cruiser it's replacing quicker than expected - the wife is car less for 3 weeks. The buyer brought $8K+ in hundred dollar bills, only road along - didn't even drive it themselves. Now that's a good buyer - really thought we would be trading in the PT and taking a big hit.

I am not sure if this is isolated to my MA but I've come to realize that the Mini Dealers don't know much about the shipping process (with the exception of Customs and port of arrival info). If you want more info on the glorious leader see the link below for its voyage schedule.

MA knew it would be at VCA on the 13th when I called and told him the PT was sold. I am not worried or bothering him for such trivial info, but wanted to know his best guess of delivery date, since the PT is history.
Interesting that's it's in the Panama Canal the 4th of July.
Try ordering an American car and see what happens, no sweet tracking like this. I ordered a 2007 GMC truck 2 months before Memorial Day 2007, on Memorial Day weekend the Dave Smith Motors salesman calls and says GM canceled my order to retool for '08's. WTF, What take the order then.
All this info for an ordered MINI is amazing. Too much info really for some worry warts.

Although pretty cool the information provided by Mini is pretty elementary and has a 3-4 day lag. I find the most useful information is from the secondary websites. I also don't think it helps that my MA is not in the loop.
Final delivery date is all that matters, and that cannot be set in stone anyway. VDC could hold any car for a long time if repairs are needed for one posisble delay.
"Don't worry, be happy".
There is nothing to worry about. As you correctly stated delivery dates can change so you would want to know this kinda information if you plan to drive 7 hours to pick up the car.
I do, however, appreciate the 1980's pop wisdom

Fortunately I do. I live in San Francisco but bought the car in my home town of San Diego. I had my late fathers BMW to trade in towards the car plus my dad had a great relationship w/ the BMW dealership so they took good care of me.
The dealers don't seem to get info from VDC after the car arrives at port. Some people have had their MINIs wait at Port Hueneme for as long as ten days. Some were for repair of damage at sea, others were just transportation issues.
Once it gets to the dealer, they have to clean it up and get it ready for you. Mine took three days at the dealer.
MA's often don't know when a car will be ready until after it is. Not sure whether they don't care enough to find out, or management treats them like mushrooms.
