NEW MINI OWNER NEEDS HELP

I just purchased a 2003 Mini S. The owner had 1 key to give me. How do I go about getting a duplicate? I don't need a fancy laser cut one, just something that will start the car. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks,
Keyless

Keyless,

I believe that you need to take your proof of ownership (title) & VIN # to any MINI dealer. They can order you a new key. Be prepared to pay up to $180 for a duplicate. It is more than a key to start the car, as it has embedded electronic programming that controls several mechanical functions, DRL light settings, windows & sunroof open/close, locks on/off, etc.

You have to take your DL and registration, or title to a dealer and order a key. The chip in the key has to be made for your VIN number, otherwise your car will NEVER start with just a plain cut key.
