How much $$$ to Install 6 Disc CD Changer?
I am waiting to pick up my new MCS; one of the options I ordered was a 6 disc cd changer. Dealer tells me it will cost "$1500 plus parts" to install. This seems like highway robbery to me. (Don't even get me started on the fact that dealer forgot to order the changer so it would be ready when the car arrived; now I've got to wait another week to get the car because he just placed the changer order today.) Anyone have any info on how much this installation should cost? Thank you!
the original paperwork said 'installation price not included' - dealer said when we placed order that he would get back to me with a price; then the dealer rep we were dealing with left the dealership and i never got an answer from the new guy until today...
I would say about $200.00 would do it.
It goes in the secrete compartment and plugs into the radio. Then the computer needs to be programmed for it.
Just be sure you did not already pay for the unit when you slapped down your down payment.
$1,500 is way to much if you are buying the car from them. The Mini USA website says it is $725.00 with the install kit included. That is Retail price for the six CD changer and everything to put it in your car except the laber.
If they tried to soak me $1,500 for something that lists for $725.00 I would be screaming and tell them to give me my $$$$ back. I would then find another dealer to buy from.
It is really sad that you have to really watch every time you want to buy something. "
REALLY SAD"

I would rather EAT the money.

$725.00---$725.00---$725.00
Go and call any other dealer and price out just what the unit with the installation kit costs. My dealer gave me a price of $725.00 plus installation. You really have to have a dealer install it due to it needs to be programmed into the computer. I would guess about $200.00 or so for the installation would be about it. Of course you can install it and then go to your dealer to have the programming done. Call "MORRISTOWN MINI" for their price. They are usually a lot lower then retail.

after all the hassle (and after having everyone i know laugh at me b/c i ordered a cd changer instead of something more, uh, up to date haha) i decided to go with an ipod adapter instead...i still think the installation price is being jacked up but i'm working on that....
A dedicated iPod in the mesh pocket on the passenger side of the tunnel is the way to go nowadays. Or, a USB stick left plugged in. Problem with that approach (in my experience) is that you get a bunch of extra flotsam displayed (I have nav), while iPod display is perfect. I'm also still trying to figure out a way to get playlists to work on a USB stick, while the iPod allows you to use all your playlists with ease. Use AAC encoding for a higher quality rip than MP3 at similar bitrates (iTunes is AAC by default, other rippers can be used as well).
Big waste of money if you ask me. I use my Garmin 5000 for my music, mp3 player, and back up camera monitor all mounter with a KUDa mount. I'm completely satisfied with the setup.
Thumbsup to going digital player, whetever your choice will be. The only problem with with a memeory stick/ipod solution is I did not like the interface. The Garmin has a pretty straigt forward, easy to read interface. Yes Iknow there are better nav usnits and better mp3 players out there but this set up works well for me.
You would have been better off buying factory nav with that 1500.
