Laurel Edition Owners...question

Are your bumpers slightly whiter than the body? Especially the rear.
The agency is saying the painted parts won't match up because they're plastic.
First time I ever heard that kind of "blow the customer off" kind of answer. Please give yours a good look and let me know. Thanks, Frank

Port installed. But the BS about being plastic and not matching is normal is not accurate. I asked if that goes for JCW. They said not matching is not unusual. I want to hear from other Laurel owners.

so are they painted at the factory and installed later or painted by some guy in his garage? I like the Laurel but have not seen one in person and the not being installed at the factory put's me off....
why did they not just build it there to start with

Its a US limited edition. All the "Laurel" stuff is installed when its shipped to the US at the Port or VDC (Vehicle Distribution Center.) They will install aero kits or other things that were ordered so the dealer does not rip you off.

OP Simply widen your search by asking ANYONE that has had a PW JCW aero kit installed at the VDC.

And they are BSing you. My dealer or whomever they sub their paint work to installed and painted my JCW aero kit this past winter. Its a good match. And I complain about every little imperfection on the car.

Its not Pepper White but it will have to do for a comparison.

As it was originally delivered with the Factory aero kit.

JCW Aero kit.

I know. The insult is worse than the paint job. I might leave it be. It's off just enough to bother me. When BMW calls me for the satisfaction survey I'll ask them to let the dealer know their answer is bogus.
Funny thing...if I saw this at the time of considering to buy the Laurel their response would be different. Same old story....they are your best friend when the check book is open.
I'm slipping. I expected a "What can we do for you...bring it in and we'll take care of it".

BTW...Beautiful Mini OneFish

Can you post a few pics of the rear of your car so we can try to see what you are talking about?

It's hard to notice in a pic but obvious in person. Also depends on time of day. I'll try to post. I think I have a good eye for detail...not sure how I missed this. In bright sunlight it's hard to detect.

From your picture it looks blatantly obvious. The car is off white - Pepper White. The bumper looks to be white. You need to bring it back and make a stink.

I wrote to the MA I purchased the Mini from. Asked how do we resolve this. How...not if. Also said I did not expect the answer I received. I'll keep this posted as it moves on.
Thanks for your support onefish. Thanks, Frank

If it gets ugly I might have to activate my X wife and send her to the service dept.

Haa haa.. Activate the X wife!! Please go in there and make a stink. Every time the service people even THINK about giving me a hard time, I LOUDLY remind them how much Simone cost. It probably also helps that I have a pretty intimidating husband.

Service did contact me to bring it in.
My .02...the problem exists because the kit was painted at a different location than the Mini. If it were painted at the same time this thread would not be here. I think they will stand behind this. To be continued.

The car came to the port with the standard bumpers covers. They took them off and then paint and color match to each car. The port VDC is a full blown body shop for BMW, MINI, and other BMW products. Although not as good as the factory paint process, its far better than what a local body shop can do in a spray booth.

Bottom line. They screwed up the job at the port and the service department at your dealership is being unreasonable. I can see its off from a picture you took and posted on an Internet forum. Make then fix it.

I'm taking it back Weds. There is no question about the match. And no question every vehicle out there has matching front & rear bumper covers. My X3 has a perfect...not to be criticized paint job.
Let's see how good they are with this. Hopefully, no fiascos. I'm optimistic yet cautious. The beat goes on.

Everyone goes through this. I saw your first post about how excited you were to get the car and drive it. And then you have to deal with this nonsense because the factory, VDC and or the dealer have poor quality control processes in place. Its that or they just don't care.

Then there are idiots like my brother who buy a new car and the sales guy points out a paint defect on the bumper and mentions it when he delivers the vehicle to him. And my brother does nothing because he does not want to be bothered bringing the car back to the dealership for the repair.

So unless you say something. They do nothing above and beyond.

And they are your best friend until the check signed. I knew there would be some agg....and I would have to drive a distance to resolve every issue. I had seconds thoughts about buying a Mini because of dealer location. So here I am. The paint job and some Top retraction intermittent problems. The dealer lives or dies at this point. This is their debut to make good. Let's see what they're made of.
I have a Mustang that I take on a 150m round trip for service & mods. I get the same tech. I get customer appreciation and respect. I never asked for anything unreasonable. I never questioned their prices. This place is the best service experience I ever had.
The service on my X3 had been very good. Problems were minimal. Warranty issues were handled fast and accurately.
My Chevy has been the pits...first & last GM for me.
Mustang outstanding.
Jeep was fair to good...but ended up taking it to my Ford mechanic and paying instead of going back to Jeep for free warranty.
I never had a paint issue so this is a first...and going to be inconvenient. I hope to be praising my Mini dealer royally instead of flaming them. I dread what they have to do to correct the situation. The less people that touch my cars...the better I feel.
And about what you said in reference to Quality Control.....seems that everyone has time to do it right the second time.

btw, I've noticed that a lot of parts tend to have a sticker in the inside with a paint code -- you could just double check that they didn't accidentally not just use plain white!
