Is using the battery's ground connection bad?

I suspect a static noise problem my be related to a recently added sub amp. I used the same ground connection that the car's battery goes to. Any chance that created the problem?

Thanks

Ground

You should ALWAYS use a separate ground for the sub.

Well thanks. I had no idea. The amp is inches from the batter. I'll create a new ground and let you know what happens.

Thanks

I am running the positive and negative power wires for my Kicker amp directly off the battery, and I have no static noise issues. Make sure to run a ground from the amp chassis itself to the negative wire.

Do the speakers play static noise with the RCA jacks disconnected? Perhaps try swapping out the power wires for a different set. Also make sure to use premium fine copper-braided wiring. I recommend a minimum of 16 gauge.

Post the make/model of your amp. Pictures would be nice, too. Someone else may be familiar with it. Also search Google to find out if others have issues with it, such as being overly sensitive. The amp may need a ground loop isolator.

I moved the ground away from battery and it seems to be 100% better. I managed too strip a torx bolt in the process so it is not a very tight ground, but seems to work fine for now. Thanks!
