Got tired of the Black Stripes

Last night I finally did it, and took off the Black Stripes.

My 06 Mini S is Pure Silver and now I have a kinda Ghost stripe.

Most of the time the S was in the garage but I still have a somewhat darker
color where the stripes used to be. I have waxed may times already !!!

Hoping this may all fade to the same color ????

Anyone else with a Pure Silver had the same results ???

Just don't wax that area for a while and it will fade to match the rest. It may be hard to tell on silver, but even waxed (UV protected) automotive paint will fade. I know that the electric blue in my door jambs is much more vibrant and brighter than the paint elsewhere. I don't think that any wax or polish can block 100% of the UV light.

In a sense I was kind of joking, but realistically, it could take 4 years depending on the amount of times you waxed it since '06 (no way to calculate UV exposure). Even then, the rest of the car will continue to fade as well. But perhaps there is a natural logarithmic function to how much unprotected paint will fade and then stabilize in color for several years before the clear coat peels away. Meaning, the ghost stripes will fade to match the rest in time without the rest fading more. Yet at some distant point, the clear will peel away from the sky facing surfaces except where the stripes were. I might be over analyzing this though.

How noticiable is the difference in color? Ghost stripes sound kind of cool actually.

I think if you cover the rest of the mini except the area that had stripes with vinyl for 4 years it should even out

What is the condition of your paint? The difference might be dirt that doesn't come off with just a wash. Maybe you've already done this, but if not, I recommend washing, using a claybar and then using a very mild polish. Something like Meguiars Swirl X. This may clean things up enough to even out the color. If it does, then put on your favorite wax. Just another suggestion ...

Just a thought, that maybe # 50 sunscreen on the bonnet except where the stripes used to be should speed up the process . . . . . . . . .
