How to check power steering fluid level?
Hi.
Is there a thread on this site that has step by step instructions on how check and add power steering fluid to a 2004 mini? Also, what kind of power steering fluid I need?
Thanks.

Unscrew the cap on the power steering fluid reservoir (located to the right of the coolant reservoir) and it should be between the two lines on the stick.
Pentosin CHF 11S (this should also be noted on the top of the power steering fluid reservoir cap) is the ONLY fluid for the Mini electric power steering pump, available at your local NAPA for $22 OTD.

I usually check mine warm, let the car sit for a half hour or so with the hood up and check it. Checking it cold may read a little low, kind of uncool for them to have excluded this basic check from the owners manual. I think the only requirements for the check is engine off and wheels straight, maybe not a big difference between cold and hot checks, we only have one set of lines and I am not sure what the Mini engineers intended since they didn't give us any info
