Movie Night in June

Hal has suggested a MINI movie night at one of the drive-ins. There's one in Watertown and Estill Springs. I think it's a great idea! Possible dates are June 12th or 19th.

Who's in?

Deb and I are in for the 12th. Of course I'm going to be rooting for The Montana Drive-in in Estill Springs since it is the one closer to us.

They are both about the same distance for me so either one is okay by me! Besides, the further away the more miles I get to motor!

I was talking to one of the guys at work who has been there. He said the food was pretty good at the Montana.

Here's a link to the website for those who want to check it out. They even have their "menu" posted. Looks like a good selection of things to pick from, too.

The Montana Drive-in looks cool, but I wanted you guys to know that there is also one in Dickson TN as well. Its about 30 miles west of Nashville. Only one screen.

Does the one in Dickson have a website? Would like to scope it out a little.

Hwy74 - We should meet for lunch one day next week. Didn't you say that you work right across from Moe's in Cool Springs?

The only thing that I can find is this:

http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/tntbroa

which is not really any info at all. Montana looks like it is much better. I brought up Dickson because I know the area. It is closer to me and I know some good roads in the area.

Yes, I do work in Cool Springs across the street from Moe's. I think I have heard of some other folks on the forum (mikenacarato) that are in the area too. It would be great to get together and talk Minis.

Mike and his girlfriend were at the dinner last Friday. He lives in the area but I think he works more towards the Nashville area.

Hal lives close to the Montana. I bet he knows some good twistie turnies in the area that we could check out.

I think I can find us a few.

Do we want to do a bit of driving first before the movie? And if so where do we want to meet up at?

Are we still talking June 12th? If so, I think that is the only day that I can make it, so I am good wi dat!

I am really only about the twisties, so I vote for driving before movie. That way, when ya get to the gravel parking lot at the drive-in, the gooey hot tires will pick up the gravel. And ya gotta admit, that's cool.

I come from crazy motorcycle world, so I hope that everyone understood that last statement. As I went back to review, I considered how strange that might sound to someone not so into (...thinking...thinking...) spirited driving.

Yeah, I'll have to admit that does have an unusual ring about it.

I'll start looking at some good roads to drive that will heat up your tires.

I'll need to know about how long, time wise, you want to drive prior to arriving at the drive-in. Also need to know where you want to meet up at. The gates to the drive-in open at 6:30 and the movie at 8:30. Figure we can eat supper at the drive-in prior to the movie starting.

I think an hour of pre-movie motoring would be adequate. . .especially since some of us will have a bit of a drive to get there anyway.

I'm going to PM a few folks who might be interested but who haven't joined the thread yet to see if we can get a few more folks on board.

Think I'll start list of how is going.

HalAC + 1

dawnmac72

hwy74 + 1

TNMiniMama (tentative)

oldhippie (tentative)

Rhonda

As more post I'll add them to the list. Might be a good idea if I contact the owner of the drive-in just to give them a "heads-up".

I sent them an e-mail yesterday to find out what might be playing that weekend. They replied quite quickly, but won't be sure what is playing until the Monday prior to that weekend.

Great idea, Hal! Looking forward to getting together with you and Deb again. Sounds like Hwy74 (don't know a real name) is a maybe and I'm hoping that Vivi, Mike and Dale can join us, too.

I'm looking into it. Oh and I found a website with info about drive -in's in TN. Looks a little outdated (I think the Pink Cadillac in Centerville is gone). http://www.driveinmovie.com/TN.htm

We should think about a movie night out this way as, Dale says, there are LOTS of good twisties out here (I drive them daily!).

But in the meantime, I'm a tentative yes for June 12 down by Hal...Depending on what's going on, I may not stay for the movie (I've been on a huge dietary change due to familial health issues and while the menu looks GREAT, I would have to really pick at it to get dinner <sigh>)

OK- gotta run, sick horse coming home tomorrow. YAY!

I am in and hoping my wife will come along as well. I just have to convince her that the pre-movie drive will not make her sick.
BTW, my name is Steve.

Yay! Marking Steve down as a "yes" and Vivi down as a "maybe".

Vivi - If you can convince your family to give you up for a night then maybe we can get something going in your area next month.

I'd like to try to plan at least one group drive/activity a month if possible. I know everyone's schedules won't always permit but if we keep the momentum going we could get a good core group of MINIacs going here.

I was thinking about the drives around here this morning and was thinking how much fun it would be, but would anyone mind how dirty their mini's got? Then it totally dawned on my that MOST of the roads around here were severely damaged in the flood. The some of the ones in Hickman/Maury/Dickson counties are gone. Just gone. We've had to modify our driving to Nashville because half the roads we take are either closed (one has a bridge out) or under "Travel at your own risk" orders, with huge chunks of road missing & lots of dusty gravel used to repair holes.
This drive in movie drive will be the only drive I'll make this summer, if I can get there, as I'm heading out of town until mid-august... I admit it, I'm a total yankee woos.

Tentative drive route

Just finished working out a route for June's movie night. If we meet up at the Wal-mart in Shelbyville, say about 5 PM and leave shortly thereafter, we can take US 231 until we get to SR-129 and turn east. This will take us to Lynchburg where we will turn kinda northward going to Tullahoma. When we get there we'll turn south on 41-A to head to the drive-in. According to my mapping software should take us about an hour, give or take a little bit, and is about 44 miles long. Just to confirm the route I'll drive it the weekend before our outing.

A couple of things you all might consider on bringing to the drive. If you have FRS walkie talkies (CH#12, sub 9), they help in communicating when stops or turns are coming up. Another thing is some kind of mosquito repellent. They haven't got too bad yet, but we're still two weeks away. Never can tell.

YAY! Thanks for taking the lead on this one, Hal! I'm excited about the drive. Can't tell you when the last time I went to a drive-in movie was. . .they still had the window speakers, if that's any indication. . .hahahaha!

I will definitely be bringing elBugSpray. I'm already scratching bites from mowing the lawn on Sunday. ARG!

This sounds like fun guys!
I doubt I'll come though seeing as it just short of 2 hours of driving for me to get to the drive-in, I understand it close for you guys but 4 hours of driving on my busy schedule is a bit much. If you guys plan on doing one a little closer count me in. Don't forget smith county area has curvy roads too .. and good BBQ!
