Movie Night in June
Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it to Movie Night, Leah. Maybe next month we can plan something closer to the Nashville area. . .perhaps a burger night at a local Sonic. Doesn't have to be a big shindig. . .just some MINI people enjoy each other's company and admiring each other's MINIS.
Haven't posted in a few days. . .thought I'd pop in today and say "HI!"
So, a plan has been formed. Meeting at 5PM at the WalMart in Shelbyville. Hal will recon the proposed route for our pre-movie drive this weekend to make sure there are no major snags (read: huge-mongus potholes/sinkholes or detours!).
Still hoping to hear from a few others who can join us but looks like we have a good group so far. Remember, the Montana shows first run movies. . .the same ones that are in a regular theater so we should get a good show. And they have three screens to choose from, both showing double features! Will post "now playing" when I can confirm what is scheduled for that weekend.

Just finished checking out the route for next Saturday's get together.
Looks really good. Fine mix of twisties, hills, and straights. Should take about an hour, give or take a little bit, to go from Shelbyville to the Montana Drive-in. If we leave from the Wal-mart parking lot about 5:30 we should arrive at the drive-in about the time they open the gates.
Should know by tomorrow evening what movies will be playing there next Saturday.

Got an e-mail from the drive-in today:
It has not been confirmed yet, but it is looking like our lineup this weekend will be..
Screen 1) A-Team & Prince of Persia
Screen 2) Marmaduke & Shrek 4
Screen 3) Splice & Sex and The City 2
Hopefully should know more in a day or two.
Are we all going to watch the same screen or do our own thing? Think I'll go with #1 (unless I get out voted by the wife)

I'm up for a little A-Team action. . .actually looks like it has a few good laughs (Rampage's acting alone should warrant at least a few chuckles!). Oh yea, and explosions!!! SWEET!
Sorry you won't be able to make it this time. I'm still trying to decide what a good July/August event would be. . .it being the height of summer (read: WAY TOO HOT TO MOVE!) not sure if an outdoor event would be appreciated. Hahaha! Maybe a Labor day event is more in order. Suggestions anyone?

If this sounds like a good idea I'll start a thread and look at the roads in the area.
Well, let me just say this about that. I am only interested in the driving and talking with other minifans about minithings, so the excursion destinations do not matter to me. Only how we get there.
I'm tryin really hard to join a group of four wheel speed junkies so that i can release (...breathe deeply...release...) the two wheel junkies that I usually hook up with.
If you guys think that I am barking up the wrong tree, enlighten me before I tick somebody off. BTW, my wife is coming with me on the movie night, so I'll be driving like my Grandma for that event.
Edit: That sounded a bit harsh. I'm really a nice guy. Well at least I think I am.

Groups drives don't always have to involve an activity. . .just makes for a good reason to stop and stretch your legs before motoring back towards home. We can certainly plan some drives that are geared just to put some motoring miles under your belt, especially if anyone knows of some great roads in the area we can explore.
And you'd be surprised. . .I've seen some blue hairs flying down the roads. Of course, they have no idea where they are or where they are going but. . .

hwy74,
Last year I did a drive which I plan on doing again this coming September. It was an all day drive with only a couple of breaks for lunch, leg stretching, and supper. I may pare it down a bit with less sight seeing in Fall Creek Falls and Rock Island State Parks.
If you haven't been out toward FCF there is a couple of sections of road that are as good as the Dragon, just not as long. Plus I found some really good back roads not so frequently traveled.

Hey guys and gals, just looked at the Montana's website and I noticed that they changed their gate opening time to 7 PM.
Do we want to start our drive a little later or shall we do something to delay our arrival time a bit more? Or we could just go ahead and arrive early and wait in line?
One thing we could do as a delay is instead of eating at the drive-in I know a little barbecue place just down the road that's pretty good. Owner used to be in the competitive circuit.

I guess we'll take a vote tomorrow before we leave Shelbyville.
I just called the BBQ place and he said his brother-in-law and some of his friends may be there with their classic Fords and Chevys. Looks like we might have a mini car show going on.
Good thing I'm planning on giving Sir Cedric a bath & Vac.

Darn Computers
Laptop died so I'm on an old POS desktop that has keyboard problems.
I'll still be meeting you all in Shelbyville at 5 PM today. Most of you have my phone #s if you need to call me.

Hal, Deb, Dawn and Rhonda (if you are out there), it was great to meet you Saturday. It's too bad more folks were not able to come because it was a great ride and nicely planned out. I'm looking forward to something more my direction but I suppose I'll have to spearhead that one.
Funny note; when Kimberly and I left the drive-in, it seemed like we were walkin out in the middle of the party. Seemed odd, but as you know, we needed to get back home. As we were driving away, I said to Kimberly, "do you think this was a double feature?". We convinced ourseleves that it was, but too late to turn back. We chuckled at our loss of movie investment.
BTW, as you guys know, I was concerned about Kimberly's car-sick feature kicking in. She did great. Turns out, Mini's suppress car-sickness. Another mini-fun-fact.

It was great fun seeing Hal and Deb again and getting to meet Steve, Kimberly and Rhonda for the first time. It was a very nice drive with just the right amount of turnies. Loved that it was also "roads less traveled" so we could push the speed limit a little.
Great job in planning our route, Hal! And the BBQ was delish, too!
Hoping we can get more folks out next time. Perhaps an earlier drive that ends at a burger joint for a late lunch. There's a nice little drive around the Franklin area that I went on if I could only remember the exact roads. . .think it's big in the two wheel set (Steve?).
Good to hear about the car sickness. Maybe it's the superior handling of the MINI that discourages it. Or maybe it's just so much fun to ride in one that you forget about feeling sick.

The place that you are thinking of might be around Leiper's Fork. It can be a big bike scene, but also cars. Leiper's Fork is a quaint little burg with some food and antique shops. Best of all, there are some fun roads around, many of them way off the beaten path.
