R50/53 What is this thing?
What is this thing?
There is a small vent just in front of the clock in my 2002 MC headliner (picture attached). My first thought is that it's a microphone, but from what I understand the 2002 model never had the option for bluetooth. I'm thinking I will disassemble the headliner to find out, but if someone else knows then that would be easier
If it's a microphone I'd like to use it for my aftermarket gps' bluetooth, although I'm not sure where it would connect to.

No I don't have a sunroof. I wouldn't think that would be it as the headliner for those with sunroofs would obviously be different anyway, no point in making a placeholder for it in the version that wouldn't have it.
It's a microphone cover.
I have an '06 and I switched the covers around: the cover nearest the driver held the sunroof switch and the cover nearest the passenger was for the microphone.
I have the Parrot EVO Bluetooth system and I had an easy installation due to the fact that the entire windshield was out due to an accident.
Anyhow, I cut a piece of dense foam and used it as a buffer between the sheet metal of the roof and the actual mic.
I then ran the mic wire along the very front edge of the headliner, down through the driver-side A-pillar cover and under the left-most edge of the dash and into the dash cavity.
The Parrot EVO component is ziptied into place in the dash cavity which is easily accessible by removing the plastic cover on the side. The wiring for the Parrot EVO then meets up with the wiring from the back of the stereo headunit.
I also have the Euro Parcel Shelf instead of the standard knee bolster, so the control for the Parrot EVO is attached to the Parcel Shelf.
Clean & easy.
Now, since I'm sure that your windshield is still in place, the method I used would still work but you may need to "fish" the wire from the mic to the front edge of the headliner and then manually tuck it behind the A-pillar cover.
