'06 JCW-Good Deal?

Hey Crew,

I'm looking at adding a JCW to my garage and am calling upon the Mini expertese here to see if it's a good deal.

The car is a 2006 Cooper S Factory JCW with 22,500 miles. It has almost every option offered, including Harmon Kardon, Chrono, Cold Weather, Convenience...and I believe that's it. It has a few other add-ons, such as a roof rack and bonnet stripes. Dealer's asking $20,900. I'm trying to get them down to $21,000 OTD. Is this a good deal or should I be pushing for better? I've been researching but I thought I'd bring it here. Thanks in advance!

I also posted this up in 1st gear. Being new to this forum, I wasn't sure where exactly to post this. I'm hoping to buy today, so please give me your input!

Waitaminnit. You're trying to get him down to a price higher than he's asking?

I think the key phrase is "OTD" (out the door).

EXACTLY! Funny, though, fellas. That's not how you haggle? No wonder the dealer bought me starbucks!

But in all seriousness, yes, it's the Out The Door price (tax, title, license). So, with taxes in my area, I would essentially be purchasing the car for $19,000.

Decided to wait. I've had some really great input here. I'm still looking around.

FYI--Talked to an 06 JCW owner yesterday and he said he had paid $17,500 for his. It was really clean inside and out. I didn't catch the mileage. Good luck on your search.

I bought my '06 MCS in Dec. '09 w/40K miles. Came with packages 1, 2, and 3, interior chrome, exterior chrome, and interior surface seven. Pretty much fully loaded. It was $16,100 before OTD. However, I also had the option of getting a couple of extra packages through them that start at the time of purchase, to include dent/ding/door repair and interior repair. One is 5/50K and the other is 7/70K. See if they can add one or more of these to sweeten the pot.

There are usually several guides the dealers go by for pricing. When I bought mine, I was shown a special black book issued specifically for my state. This was considered the guide to use beyond KBB or NADA. Find out if your state has one and check it for the price. To give you a perspective, I entered your info into KBB using a Zip code where you're at. With all options you mentioned and mileage, it puts the value (using CPO option) at $28,355. No one's going to pay that much. You might as well buy a new one.

Keep in mind it's already three years old. Provided you have the 4/50K warranty, that's only one year left. Consider getting the extended motorer warranty. Read more here: http://www.miniusa.com/sections/moto...Protection.pdf. It's roughly $3K. I would have bought it, but I can just yank parts from my totalled '02 MCS as needed. And don't get it confused with the extended service program; it's not the same thing.

^Thanks for all of the input and ideas from everyone who posted up here. You guys have been great. I know people love their Minis, but the market just does not support the prices. My favorite is when someone tells me they bought their car as an "investment."
