Hi from sunny England and quick tech question

Sorry to infiltrate your US site but struggling with my '02 Cooper. Trying to change seized rear caliper and cannot fathom how to disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper.

Does anyone know whether there is a circlip or if they just seize and need a little persuasion ?

Thank you kindly for your help in advance and good to see there are so many enthusiasts across the pond.

Parking brake

If you have a Bently Manual section340-32 shows how. Otherwise you must disconnect the brake cable inside the car at the brake handle After that detach both cables from behind the brake handle by pulling cables up and outword. Then go back to brake caliper you should have enough slack to pull the cable off the caliper. I would suggest You Purchase a Bently Manual for the Mini as with it you can take the whole car apart and put it back together again.

Hi

Thanks Martin, yes, it must be time to invest in a manual.

I had disconnected the cable from the handle and have the slack, my problem is really 'unthreading' the cable from the old caliper, it just doesn't want to come out.

Thanks again, will hunt down a manual.

Parking brake

In the manual it shows a round actuating lever on the inside of the caliper. It says to pull cable housing down to free from caliper bracket after detaching cable from actuating lever. Arrow in picture shows moving cable towards inside of car. might help A little WD-40 on the cable at the end where it attaches to the caliper might help.

Thanks guys, really helpful and good to be aboard. Unfortunately seven years of our beautiful Brit climate has helped to seize the cable in the caliper - now where's that hammer.

Out of interest, are most minis in the US manuals (stick shift) or autos ?

The auto are rare over here.
