i was tightening it like an idiot and now what are my options?? i need a whole new front passenger strut?

you do not need a new strut. the same thing happened to me.... twice. i went to mini and purchased the studs at around $16.00 each. my mechanic removed the strut, hammered out the sheared stud and hammered in the new stud.

yes sir. it is actually that simple. i watch my mechanic do it. easy, peasy lemon squeezy. mini won't have the strut bolts on hand. they'll need to special order, takes about a week.

the studs are pressed in and can be punched out with a hammer pretty easily.

at least in my 02 they were.

also, you dont need a "press" you can just use a hammer for knocking out the stud and then a hammer to knock a new one in. its just a stud with small protrusions on the sides to cram it into the strut top.

okay okay, im a little cooled off now, my bro just came home and i showed him the damage and he said its not that bad, and that you could take the stud and just hammer it out, hes done it before, so itll be a easier fix, he said my strut wasnt flush all the way and thats why that happened, but yes where can i order the studs???????????????

You might try MINI of Ontario. This is a new dealership and they have been fantastic about supporting our local club (scmm.org), including discounts on parts and accessories.

Sounds like some strut tower mushrooming. Get some strut tower plates or plates + brace to mash it flat again.

Add me to the club.

And I it was the exact same stud that broke on mine, as did for rehgee.

Does the strut really need to be removed? Or can one access the one stud from underneath somehow?

Sorry Walt, but the strut will need to come out to remove & replace the broken stud. There simply is no room with the strut in the car.
