TPMS on a 2006 MC - work, or not, on a 2009 MC?

Those that have been around longer, can they confirm what I think I've discovered for reading some threads?

A 2006 mini cooper's original set of wheels will NOT be compatible (TPMS sensor, that is) with a 2009 MC.

And, one way to tell (short of installing and trying to sync my vehicle to those new wheels) is that the 2006 valves will NOT end in the same metallic ends that my 2009 currently has...

is that all correct?

thanks much.

The TPMS changed in 2007. And again on the 2010 models. So no they won't work on your 2009..

Sorry

I don't think that the 06 MINIs (R50/52/53) had TPMS unless your '2006' MINI was an R56 made in December 06.

I think what they are asking is if the Rims/Wheels from an 06' can be equipped with the TPMS, (in other words, will the sensor fit)and then used on a 09 MC.

I'm not sure it will fit...but not sure it will not....but if they do fit you will need to transfer the sensors to them (they are not equipped), or buy a second set that is compatible. A call to the dealer might give you the info you need.

You can probably buy sensors for them. You just need to make sure that you get the sensors that are compatible with your 2009. Alex@TireRack.com can advise you.

The 2006 wheels will have standard rubber valve stems because there were no sensors in 2006 wheels. The FTM just measured wheel rotations to determine if a tire had gone flat.
