I have heard that 235/40/17 tires will fit on an r56 without rubbing. I would like to run this size tire with a 1.5 - 2" drop. I have a few questions for anyone that has done this.

• Were you able to accomplish this without any rubbing?
• What wheel width and offset did you use?
• If you had rubbing what could be done to eliminate it?

I am having some wheels made and I am trying to find the optimal width and offset to accomplish this without rubbing. If I have to do a bit of "clearancing" here and there, that's OK. I don't want to but I could go to a 225 tire if absolutely necessary.

Your input is appreciated...

 

Check out Mach V Dan's car. I'm not sure if he had 8's, but I know for sure 7.5 et 45 and had minimal if any rubbing with his springs. On 8's prolly between 40 and 45 should fit just fine.

 

That's right. These are 7.5" +45 offset.

The tires are 235/40R17. It doesn't rub. Note that our car is only lowered 1.25" or so. Not 2". But you can see from the track photo that even at pretty serious compression, it wasn't contacting anything.

Not much! Tire clearance to the front strut is minimal.

No. I don't know an easy way to do that. Fill the car with 1500 pounds of stuff while it's on the scissors lift? Put the wheels and tires on the car with no springs on it?

That's how I do it on my racecar. Put the car on stands remove the spring and raise the suspension by hand or with a jack. If you want to simulate the spring to check clearance there, while it's at full compression take a measurement and cut a piece of pvc tubing of whatever works and put that in place of the spring.

 

I leave the springs on and place a jack under the tire in question. I then raise pretty much the entire car on the jack. This will not completely bottom out the suspension, but I find that on the track your suspension will not compress this much. I currently have 235/40/17's on 7.5 37et wheels. They stick out in the rear a little and I had to roll the fenders ever so slightly.

I have an R56 that is lowered pretty heavily on KW V2's. I could live with a larger offset in the rear, but the front's are pretty close to the springs (maybe less than 5mm's). I also did not want to have different offset wheels in the front from the rear.

Sorry, I don't. I just ran them at the track. I can tell you that I was running Nitto NT01's, so you might start from those sizes as a basis. As I am sure you know, there is a pretty large discrepancy between different sizes from different manufacturers. If you are running Hoosier 205's, they are pretty big for instance.

If you happen to be around the Dallas area, I would be more than happy to let you try them on.

 

Sweet, I just ordered 235/40/17s mounted on 7.5 +37s. I'm running the NM springs. Thanks for posting up your specs. I'm pretty confident they'll fit without rubbing.
I ordered Dunlop direzza's with it btw. I'll post up pics when i get them in and installed. Could take a little while though with this european ash cloud craziness.

 

Nice should fit.. says theyre a little wider than btw's setup, but not hardly much...They do say Nittos run small.

I am due to be at the track next on May 15-16th. I will take some pics then. Also, the Nitto's might be "small" compared to other tires... but when you have them on the car, they look HUGE. I think you are going to find out quickly just how tight things become when you try and squeeze these tires in there.

OK.. I found a picture that is not super great, but you can kinda see the rear tire over my shoulder.

They came in today too!!! Indiana to Spain in 4 working days!! Thats smoking fast! I don't have them on me though. They are locked away in the mail room on base.

I wasnt able to get them today bc i lost a darned control arm bolt yesterday! Lost it in a round about and had a massive drift. there was ridiculous negative camber I'm having to have a spare bolt and nut shipped to Spain. That and i'm waiting on the m14-m12 studs to come in.

I've acquired a loaner car from a friend. I'll be picking up the wheels/tires tomorrow. I dont know when they'll be mounted unfortunately.

I'll post pictures of the combo once i bring them home tomorrow.

My wheel specs are above... 17x7.5 et37. I run -2.1 camber in the front and -1.5 in the rear, zero toe all the way around.

No spacers.

FINALLY! After these wheels staring at me for almost a week. I finally have them installed and couldn't be happier. To reiterate, these are Volk Te37 +37 17x7.5 tires are dunlop michelin star spec z1 235/40r17. Hope you enjoy!
