I recently bought a set of Goodyear Eagle GT's in a 205-50-16 to replace my Kuhmo ASX that wore out after 20k. The first day I had them they felt a little squirrely so I called the tire store and they said that Goodyear had a 30 day test drive on their tires so if I don't like them, I could bring them back and swap them out for something else. My experience so far is that they ride really nice but they don't seem as responsive as the Kuhmo's were.

After I had them installed I also realized that they are kind of a heavy tire - 24 lbs. I've heard that after about 500 miles of driving the handling can change on tires (improve). I love the way they look and the fact that they have a 50,000 mile warranty but that means nothing if they don't handle the way I want. If I swap them out I would do so with another all season tire with a mileage warranty (and affordable) which has me looking to the Falken ZE-912. It's lighter by about 2-1/2 lbs but only has a 40,000 mile warranty. I do see some snow but my commute is short so if the Falkens don't handle quite as good I can live with that.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

 

I ran my ZE-912s in 205/50/16 about 12K miles then they got really noisy. Replaced with an old stock GY GSD3 when the rack has a closeout sale.

They GY are only run on the track for lapping days, so far.

I have since put on Nitto NeoGens as my daily drive tire, but in 17s.

 

I am currently dumping my Falkens which you are considering because they are shot after 18,000 miles. None of the UHP tires will lat what they are rated at but you do get an adjustment. I am receiving $63/tire back on my next purchase of whatever tires I buy. I ordered the Conti extreme contacts DSW but they are on national back order with no foreseeable delivery time. I am evaluating the Goodyear GT all seasons...The Falken's performed fine--just not like my previous Dunlops but then they also cost only a third of what the Dunlops cost...

 

I found myself in deepest darkest Iowa with a flat on a Saturday night. Threw the donut on & Sunday morning discovered that 1 flat tire was toast (Goodyear GSD F1). What to do? I ended up at evil Wally World where some nice folks sold me a Goodyear Eagle Authority in 205/50/16 as a replacement to get me back to Ohio. They told me it was the same tire as the Eagle GT & believe it most likely is. Back home I took a good look at the other GSD F1's & declared them used up but good. So off to the local evil Wally World for 3 more to match the one bought in Iowa.

OK here is the meat of this long winded post. My tires felt the same way yours did when new. After 1,000 miles they do seem to be a fine tire. Not as much grip as the GSD F1, but they are an all season tire after all. I'm loving the smoother ride.

 

ive got the GTs for winter use on mine, and theyre OK. they were squirrelly at first, but i think once all the oils come out they work just fine. They are definately a stiff tire with the XL sidewalls, so they really arent too different from my Continental runflats.

I wouldnt buy them again, but I also got them in a 205/55/16 which is too big. It helps correct the speedo, but its a lot of tire lol. Going to be hell fitting them on with the VMaxx's

moral of the story, give them time. If they give you 30 days, use most of them, and that will give them time to work in.

 

As the end of 30 day trial period neared, I got to liking the Goodyears more and more. I really put them through the grinder trying to find a reason not to like them and couldn't. I've got a couple of thousand on them now and am glad I hung onto them. I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle in the snow.

 

I enjoyed them in the snow, for not being snow tires... MUCH better than the OE runflats for sure. I couldnt justify snow tires for the amount of dry roads I would use them on in the months prior and after winter. (wasnt going to remount the summers until ALL salt was gone lol)

 

I have had the Goodyear Eagle GT`s for the past 5,000 miles and they work really well as a daily driver. I would not consider this tire for high performance driving.

 

I have the Eagle GT's as well, and definitely very "squirrley." I would not recommend them if you are switching from a high performance sport tire, which I did.

 

I also switched from a high performance tire & yes they are different. Like they say different horses for different courses. No way I'd track these, but no way I'd drive the high performance summer tire in cold weathe either. All tires are a compromise in one way or another.

 

I don't know about the GT's, but the Falken ZE 912 aren't great. Get very noisy in any condition, dry grip is very poor, though wet grip is pretty good. In my opinion, Kumho ECSTA (KU31) is better all-around UHP tires.

 

Definitely like the 195/60-15 Eagle GTs we recently put on our '06 coupe. Huge step up from the OEM Conti Contacts.

 

I'm not liking the noise factor with my Falken Ziex 502's... I really started to notice the noise this year - especially at 30-40 mph. Today was the first day back on my winter wheels which are the stock Good Year run-flats. Not only was the ride quieter, but it also felt better. The Falkens have just shy of 26,000 miles on them, but I'm just kinda shocked at how awful they are now.

I can't say that I'm surprised - they were an $85 tire installed. Would 25,000 miles be about the limit on them?
