What does it say in your manual, or on the sticker on the door?
That's a good starting place, then adjust a little up or down based on the wear and handling you want.
40 is too much unless you're running at the track (and then it still might be), that's the max pressure the tire is rated for, it'll ride like it's on rocks at that press.
You might start at 35...

Seems like the recommendations on tire changes are a little different. I can only say that for a r56 with the 17" rim option, the tire pressure is 38 psi all around as stated on the door sticker. I think it is a little high especially with the sport suspension but that is the recommendation.
Add a little (1-2 psi) to see if you like how it drives ...
