Anyone tried this MC turbo?
Anyone tried this MC turbo?
I stumbled on this product in Modern Mini a couple of months ago:
http://www.autofashion.co.uk/turbo_conversion.htm
It lists at 2300 British pounds which is roughly $3,500. I'm curious to hear the good and bad about this one, not that I have that money burning a hole in my pocket.
Can the tranny handle it? Is it street legal? I'm sure it would negate any warranty you had left.

ugh i wish the GBP-USD exchange rate was that low when I was living in London!!
To answer your question though, everything I've heard about turbo'ing an R50 is that its really not cost effective...and the internals and transmission really cannot handle it all that well. But its been a while since I've followed the R50 world

No, the tranny cant handle it. You'll have to swap to the 6-speed.
And unless you only run like 5lbs of boost the internals can't handle it.
Basically the kit is $3500
The tranny is $2000
The labor is gonna be at least another $3000 (I'd DIY but thats just me. Still alot of man hours and you're still gonna need to dyno and tune)
Plus you gotta ship that over here
Long story short, if speed is your thing, you shoulda bought an S. Even after all that cash you're gonna dyno the same as a stock S.

About the Cooper pistons, people say they are not durable, the are cream, etc, i have 3 of my old engine, they are Mahle alouminium pistons, their skirt is short, and have ceramic coating on the skirt. They may not handle boost, basically because of the high c/r, but they look like good pieces to me. The rods are the weak point i guess.
