What is the sound for?

hi,i have a 2002 mini cooper with 92K on her.I just got her a few weeks ago with 90k..yellow w/blk top..great car...but the last few days when i leave for work in the morning,she will make a DING sound when i start driving down the road..like i left my seat belt off or a door is ajar..there are no light on in the dash or anything..does anyone know why the MINI is giving me just one ding?..tks,chris

There's a chime for temperature near the freezing point, to warn you that ice may be present on the road! That's the first thing that came to my mind! I was wondering the same thing when I got the car (december)!

it will make that sound every time the outside temp is below 37 just as a warning not to do anything crazy... I wish it would ding every time a crappy driver was within 50 feet.

I'm trying to remember from when I had an '02, but I thought you could stop it from dinging, whilst it was dinging, by pressing the button on the turn signal stalk.

My '06 allows me to do this.
