This reminds me of when the 6th gen Celica guys put a V-Tech engine in their cars to make them go faster. But like Ben said, it's not a Toyota anymore and the point of the car is moot.
^^^ Oh. absolutely ridiculous, but in an over-the-top show car kind of way - not shown in the pic is the honkin' stereo and the flat screen tv in the back - and all the little details are done very well. He owns a company specializing in custom built hi-performance snowmobile engines, so think of it as an advertising attention getter. I was most intrigued by the front suspension set-up: http://www.thecrankshopvt.com/galler...d=second&rrr=1
Not sure what the theory is here. MINI/BMW didn't bother to build or design (or at least build in the case of the 2007+ MINIs) the engine in our cars. I would be at the dealer right now with a deposit check if MINI made a deal to use Honda engines (that nice 140HP version from the Civic would be fine for the Cooper, and the 200HP engine from the Si would be great for the S).
I love my 06 Cooper (58,000 trouble-free miles) but IMHO it ain't the engine that makes our cars MINIs.

yes but a 140hp Honda engine makes what? 70 Tq? Same with the 200 hp Si..
I'd certainly throw a vtec in mine if I had the money/time to do so.
Second that - at some point it really does come down to displacement, and only so much can be done to a 1598cc engine and still have it somewhat reliable...
but the new mini's actually have Chrysler engines in them so whats it shouldn't matter if he swaps it out for a Honda it's still a mini.
They're not Chrysler engines. They're Tritec engines that are sold to a few different car manufacturers. Chrysler had a small hand in the design stage, as did BMW.

The NEW Mini's use a Peugeot engine.
I"m sorry sir, I do think you might be wasting your breath. For people who only know vtec, vtec is the only thing that matters. As far as they're concerned you could swap a vtec into a Porsche 911 to make it faster, forumula one cars use Honda Vtec engines (and as far as they know the same one in their civic Si runs the F1 car) so they're of course the fastest thing in the world.
Arguing engines with a Honda Fanboi is like drowning yourself to prove you cant breath under water.

R50's had Chrysler engines. The block was all American. The head changed significantly when BMW got there hands on it though.
