2010 Minis on the Dragon questions!

I hope I am posting this in the right forum. For you veterans of the past "MINI's on the Dragon" event I have a few quick questions...

1) I am assuming there is one "main" dragon route, there 133 bends. What are the two towns are bookend this road? Reason I ask is to get a feeling for where most people begin and end this drive

2) What about law enforcement on the road? I am not planning anything crazy at all but would like to push the car a little on the bends. Are these guys camped out all through the dragon?

3) How many of you plan to be at the April event this year?

Thanks everyone...hope to see as many of you there this year!

The Tail of the Dragon runs for 11 miles and has 318 curves. The run typically starts at Deals Gap (there is a gas station/store/motorcycle hotel there) and runs across the North Carolina/Tennessee border, ending in Tennessee. There really isn't a town at either end and on the Tennessee end there's nothing but a couple of parking lots with Port-o-Potties, a big lake and road.

The LEOs are mostly out there on the Tennessee side and they do enforce the speed limit with radar. Sometimes you'll complete an entire run and not see one at all and sometimes you'll see three. No way of telling. The speed limit in both states is 30 mph.

If you haven't been before, driving it at the posted speed is fun and still a challenge. We will be having two newbie orientation sessions where veterans will share information on what to expect with an emphasis on safety. We encourage you to attend.

I just booked some fun on the Ziplining craze! Good luck getting a room. Fontana Village is booked. But there are plenty of other Motels/hotels/Resorts within a very short area. In addition to the Dragon are many other curvy trails located very nearby, for your MINI motoring pleasure. Come on out, show off your MINI/Mini, and check out the others - and of course, meet new friends/enthusiasts!

Last year we had 603 registrations and over 425 MINIs. Looks like we might top that this year

And remember that it is called "The Dragon" and not "The Tail of...". The Tail of The Dragon is the name of a souvenir shack across from the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort. Named such as they are at the end, or tail. They have a website named The Tail of The Dragon and they love it when people make this mistake!
