Navigation & Audio Using NavTweak and/or NavCoder
Using NavTweak and/or NavCoder
For the curious and those that are not afraid to use NavTweak and NavCoder, maybe you can help with this question.
I want to get to where I can change the Splash screen and messages on the SatNav. I have an R57 2009 so my satnav is the bmw MKIV model. How do I do this?
I have searched various forums about what to look for and have not been able to find the elusive "navboot" file. Most sites talk about the navboot file being app_sw but I can't seem to see that file in UltraISO or in NavTweak when I search the uncompressed iso of my satnav dvd.
Here's what I have been able to do.
1 View my iso file for North America Professional 2009.1 and see the folders and files.
2 install the necessary files on my laptop to use NavTweak 2.7 and run the program. (I did get to where NavTweak executable is in the bin directory of windows GK+)
So if this makes any sense out there, please chime in. I spent 2 hours searching a more recent how to guide and have not found any where someone was able to make the changes I seek on the 2009.1 disc.
If I have confused you, let me know. I am hoping we can make some progress with this thread.
Besides, we are 25 inches deep in snow here in the DC area....so I have time to ponder!

One person came on NAM over a year ago and said they had written software that did this. Never would show any pictures of the changes and the person disappeared not long after that.

Changing the splash screen may not be possible. It is stored in "on board" memory and not read from the Nav disc. You can remove the Nav disc if you don't use the sat nav part and load a DVD with MP3 files for example and you still get the splash screen, menus, phone, etc. Pretty much everything but map display and POIs.
The splash screen and other "on board" software isn't loaded using the DVD drive so changing things on the Nav disc probably isn't going to change that part. But maybe NavTweak can change some of the POI icons.
There was a thread or two on here about Pimp-My-Nav software that may have some other insight for you.
Good luck. There's pretty much zero info out there on this type of mod with the 2nd Gen cars.

Hi Minidrivr, thank you. Good point about the mp3 DVD. I have one and forgot that the MINI Logo still comes up.
I have been thinking about using NavCoder as well to see if I could ultimately get British English on the Sat Nav. Like you said though, except for map display and POIs, I haven't found good info about the MINI SatNav on 09+ MINIs.
I remember the "apple fraud" fiasco, it had been a while since I read those posts.
So, I'll update if anything ever surfaces on this topic.

Not true. MkIV (DVD) and MkIII (CD) were Nav units for 1st gen MINI. You have the Professional Nav system used in 2nd gen MINI.
NavCoder is for MkIII/MkIV only and won't work on your car. I don't think anyone has succeeded in changing the icon on the new Nav. The older Nav was hackable because firmware updates were loaded from an updater CD, allowing reverse engineering and replacement of the icon with a different one. The new Nav updates firmware through the dealer computer and nobody has come up with hacks. The map DVD however is hackable for adding POIs.
Check the Xoutpost (formerly called X5World) Nav forum for more information: http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/navigation-system/. Almost all of the information on NAM really comes second hand from there.

"No British Voice" that's terrible :-(
I think the voice chosen for the American Accent is pretty good as far as that goes. But there's nothing like the charm of a British Accent in a British Car.
Hello BMW/MINI...what happened to "You-ification?"
