My newest pet peeve....

Whenever I close the rear hatch, it "bounces" open because it's bouncing off the parcel shelf in the back.

The first few times I thought it was because I didn't have the shelf "snapped in" all the way.

But there's days that the hatch is closed, I open it, grab something and close the hatch only to have it bounce open again.

Perhaps I'm missing a rubbler snubber or something on the ends of the parcel shelf tips. I'll check tomorrow.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I've heard that there are little rubber bumpers that you can screw in and out to correct that, you might want to check on that. If they're too far out, the hatch won't close, if they're too far in the hatch.. rattles?

My hatch doesn't touch the parcel shelf. I think you need to adjust the rubber in your boot.

I only have a problem with the parcel shelf after it got run over. It gets better if I bend it up in the middle a bit.

I booted that POS flimsy thing on day two. No problems now. Assuming that is what you are referring to....just take it out. My window tint is dark enough that if I have packages back there and leave the car, it cannot be seen.

But it's a parts hauler by day anyway, so it does not get left in too many places for long.

I can't imagine the shelf being the cause. Mine did the same thing and just a quarter turn of the rubber bumpers that cushion the boot door as it closes fixed it 100%. Its a 3 second fix.

Guys, I appreciate the advice but it's not an adjustment on the hatch. (especially with me being in the bodyshop business, that would be embarassing..lol)

When I close the hatch I can hear it hit that stupid parcel shelf. I'm thinking there is some sort of rubber missing not allowing it to seat all the way back in there and when the hatch closes, it smacks it first.

I'll go check.

Check and make sure the inside cover on the hatch is fully seated, Orange. After I had the hatch repaired from a fenderbender, they didn't get all the little pegs seated on the hatch cover. The little pins kept the cover pushed out and it made a lot of noise for a day or so. I took it back and they fixed it in a jiffy. You couldn't tell by looking that it was not seated.

One question. Is the boot latch the original install? I ask because I had the "bounce" problem after I replaced the boot latch with a chrome type. I discovered two things, 1) on the right and left sides of the shelf there are small rubber "feet" installed. 2) I had not properly seated the rear door interior panel which was also causing a problem.

Check for the "feet" but most importantly, check the rear door panel. Even if you had not removed this panel, it may be a good idea to go around with a soft mallet to ensure it is firmly attached to the door at all the snap joints.

Hope it helps.

I went out and doublechecked the rear panel. It's attached to the liftgate just fine.

It seems that the parcel shelf dislodges just a hair and the "bounce" is the rubber snubbers on the interior trim panel bouncing back on the parcel shelf if it has moved ever so much.

Ya know, I'm not really sure why I've kept the darn thing in there... it's not like someone can see what I've got in the trunk.

I'll drive without it a few days and see if it's worth keeping. (I was thinking exhaust noise... I know when the rear seats are down, the exhaust is so much louder than without.

I originally took mine out because I don't need it. But because I leave my rear seats folded down I put it back in in-between the rear seats where they fold. This keeps the seat belt clasps from leaving marks in the rear seats and if I need it I have it with me. Although so far I have yet to use it.

I find it does do some sound insulating. There are air vents in the rear that let sound in.

Mine does it as well on occasion. I just grab it and bend it in a little (more like bend it up and in as it is sagging a little) you can tell if yours is doing it by the rub marks on the boot door panel.

Want mine? Maybe it'll fit better. I may even still have it somewhere.

On the sound deadening, I can't imagine it makes all that much difference. I have the JCW exhaust and I didn't notice it being any louder with or without the shelf. Plus it gets in the way when the seats are down, IE trying put/take golf clubs out is a ***** with the shelf in place.

Speaking of rear hatch, does anyone else struggle every time you go to open it? Either only my drivers side door is unlocked so the trunk isn't or I have to push the open button on my FOB twice to get it to open. Or unluck the entire car.

What a pain in the ***.

Mine bounce back if I try to close it too fast. I think the little rubber ***** on the ends of the lift strings swing around and sometimes get in the way some how.

I've got 10 bucks that's my problem. If I close it slowly, I don't have issues. Apparently I'm just whipping it down too fast.

Mine does what Coopaw suggests, the little rubber ***** on the strings get in the way. It only seems to happen when I am putting the shelf back in after being removed.

For some reason mine does the same thing, but only the first time I shut it after "re-installing" it, after taking it out. After that it works normally.

OK folks, mine is doing something strange. Its quiet as can be in the morning or at night, but when the car sits in the sun, something heats up and the hatch rattles right at the latch.

I've adjusted the little rubber feet on the sides of the hatch to no avail. It would seem that the "metal to metal" (I know that there is some sort of nylon in the latch, but its hard as metal) connection between the latch and the little loop on the hatch is the issue. Any thoughts on how to fix???

My Dealer thought they'd be cute and attach some kind of Tape around the "U" Anchor to make the noise go away!! BTW...that wasn't where the rattle was coming from!!

Herleman, I have the same issue. I get a rattle back there that drives me crazy. I tried moving the rubber studs out to get a tighter fit but that didn't seem to help. I hope someone has a fix for it.
