HiFi Buzzing noise

Ever since I bought my car (with HiFi) the smaller speaker on the drivers side door buzzes during certain songs/commercials on the radio. Its really noticeable with the volume up high. My bass setting was on +5 and treble +6.

I took it to the dealer and they said it was normal. They said the smaller speaker can't handle a lot of bass and it causes the buzzing noise. They pretty much just told me its a design flaw, and to lower the bass and treble.

Has anyone else have this problem? Is it normal like the dealer says? I'm not much of an audiophile so I'm not so sure

Yea, the HIFI speakers are pretty cheap. By increasing the bass and treble so much you are basically turning down the mid-range, and that is what those speakers handle best (not that they are much good at anything). So, you are probably pushing them way beyond what they can handle.

If you want a lot of bass, you'll need a subwoofer. If you want good highs, you'll probably need new speakers and an amp.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know its normal. Well, not really glad that this is normal operation, but you know what I mean.

So my best bet is keeping my bass and treble low or upgrading the speakers? Its annoying how they let you raise the bass to +6 but its barely audible.

It is annoying that they made us pay extra for the HIFI option when it wasn't as good as the average car audio. My 1990 Acura Integra (cheapest Acura at the time) had a better audio.

No wonder you hear a buzzing noise. +5 and +6 are way to the wrong end of the scale here. This means you have almost no midrange level compared to highs and lows.

Even replacing the speakers with the best and most expensive you could find would not clear your problem.

I will agree with everyone else that the HiFi system is basically junk but no mater what you do when you crank up the bass and treble like that you will have a problem.

I have to keep them at +0 +0 to make it sound okay. But I had a horrible case of door panel buzzing (like talk radio was annoying enough to make me scream). I found a sound test CD that I was able to reproduce the buzz for the dealer. The dealer installed a sound deadening kit available to them. The sound is infinitely better now. And the area that was buzzing for me was on the driver door about 4 inches to right of the small door speaker, the area that is covered by the dash when the door is shut.

Try running it with the door open and pressing in that area to see if you can reduce the buzz. If so, have the dealer install that kit.

Talk radio is bad for your health--mental health that is.

Today I was driving around with my new setting (bass 0, treble +2) and I still heard buzzing during certain songs with a decent amount of bass.
