Port and polish head

Im thinking of porting and polishing my head but im new to tuning minis so i dont know alot about the stock specs.

Can anyone tell me what type of stock head gaskets minis have? Are they reusable or do they need to be replaced everytime the head is removed.
Also the head studs can they be reused or are the torque to yield TTY studs?

I have a 2003 mini non S automatic.

Also this is really noob but its bothering me. Can someone tell me wat the R50 R52 R53 R56 relate to?

I know they are diferent generations but can somsone just break down what each one stands for and the ranges.

Thanks very much
Gocka

R50 is the cooper
R53 is the Cooper S
R52 is the cabrio
the above are gen1 cars
r56 is gen2 Coopers
head bolts are one time use only from what I have read, gaskets are avalable, both new and aftermarket....why take a chance a reuse one....

thanks a bunch.

Not taking a chance. Some car dont have rubber coated ones that dont need to be replaced everytime. Same thing with the head studs. It just depends on the car.

So that means my non S 2003 is an R50

What is a cooper one?

Yes your 03 Cooper NON S is an R50.

You should def. invest in a bentley manual.

You HAVE to replace the head gasket everytime you remove the head. But most of the times the bolts can be reused. I measure them to make sure they haven't stretched too much. Otherwise the intake, valve cover and header gaskets can usually be reused without problems. But while your doing this it is a good time to go ahead and replace the thermostat gasket, these tend to leak alot.

A Cooper One is a Euro model we don't get in the US
