iPod Touch Bluetooth with 09 S (with BT but no Nav)

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has been able to get their iPod Touch working using Bluetooth audio with a 2009 mini cooper S (with blue tooth with no NAV). It is a brand brand new iPod Touch (got it on Dec 25, 2009) with the latest apple software on it. This would be so cool if it worked. I have not been able to get them to "pair". The Mini Bluetooth works great with my Blackberry Bold Bluetooth for making calls.

Also, when I plug the iPod Touch in with the Y cable it works, but it does not charge. I hear there is a new cable coming out that will fix this. Anyone have information on this?

Thanks for any help on this!

Michael

The MINI doesn't support A2DP, the protocol for Bluetooth stereo, so that will not work (for any device).

Search the forums here there are a number of solutions to this problem form adapters to new cables. The dealer should have the new cable available. Adapters are usually less expensive though.

ran-o-matic: Thank you for clearing that up for me. That makes sense as the only pairing I could find is associated with the phone. I guess those folks that say they have it working are confused.

Question: Are there any known work arounds? Is this a firmware upgrade from BMW/mini in the works?

shatzy62: Thank you for the cable update. My dealer says that the iTouch cables are not available to them from mini yet. I did a search on the Forums for a solution and looked for 30 minutes and could not find one.

Question: Is there a URL to a cable that provides POWER to the iTouch and that works with the 09 cooper s, that I can buy?

Again, thank you for your help on this!

Unfortunately there is no upgrade for this in MINI's current future. But it can be done with some other pieces.

For instance I have a Blackberry and RIM (blackberry manufacturer) make a Bluetooth Stereo Gateway that is A2DP and has a 1/8" stereo mini plug output 5vdc power (via usb) requirement. With this I can plug the a male to male 1/8" stereo cable in to the AUX on the dash and to the gateway and then either a usb cable from the cars usb port or from a cigarette lighter to usb charger to the gateway and poof I now have bluetooth audio for the car.

There are other types out there that are designed to do the same thing for iPod's heres a link for another one i have tried and it worked well.

There are two "Y-Cables" the old one and the new one. The old one will not work for latest generations iPhone/iTouch the new one (which has been available since September) should work with the iTouch. The first number below i believe is the newest part and should work, and the second number is the one that should not work. But I may have that backwards. Ask our dealers parts department to get you the latest version of the cable and try it before buying it.

i know you want integration but after using my iphone and ipods i'd suggest just using the stereo aux....the problem is the mini's ipod interface (probably most manufactures) sucks. if you want something starting with a S or T you'll be scrolling a while. i don't listen to anything past L or M. and it's a cheap cord!

I tried a Bluetooth stereo gateway, like schatzy62 mentioned. It didn't really add anything over the aux cable and USB charger I already had and ate the battery up too.

I use my old cables for my Blackberry now and am happy.

I did it more as an experiment and actually use the BLackberry Stereo Gateway on my work office sound system rather than in the car, but then again the system i have in my car out does what a iPod or blackberry or any other mp3 player does. Here is a link to the system in my car.

So okay I have gone over board with carrying music in my car 70,000 plus tracks now and still working on more, but when I am in the car for 10+ hours a day it come ins very handy.

Guys, this is super helpful, thank you.

schatzy62, Your set up is awesome! My only mod is to hardwire a tom-tom gps. After googling around, it looks like 61 12 0 440 812 is the right one. I couldn't find anywhere to buy one tho! My mini deal does not have them. I wonder if I went to the BMW dealer.

jrcsh6, I agree with your sentiment. My work around has been to use "random" and specific play lists when I am in the car. It is a little more work on the PC, but it resolves the end of the alphabet bands. Next time I start a band, I am going to call them the Aaardvarks or some such "a" silliness.

Thanks!
Michael
