Cargo Net

Hey guys,

I picked up my car three weeks ago. Tonight I opened up the packaging to put the cargo net in the boot. The packaging only had two pieces, one for the side and one for the bottom. I found a picture on the internet, and it had all three pieces, so I'm obviously missing something - that is one of the side nets. Why would they only package two nets?

I would go back to the dealer and complain. BTW I took 2 of the 3 from my car out. I did not find much use for them.

Yes. That is the slime kit. Hopefully I will never need to use it. I ditched the run flats at 5000 miles. I have them sitting in my garage just in case I need them again.

I toughed it out for 31,000 on my runflats. Switching to non runflats is a close second behind the JCW tuning kit as the best mod I have done.

1... There are 3 pieces - 2 side "triangles" and a rectangular floor net. I don't use mine much, but the rectangular one fits nicely between the front seatbacks and keeps my dog from jumping into the front seat. I think he'd rather drive than ride in the back.
p.s.. did you know there are little pockets in the triangle shaped side nets? One edge of the net opens up and you can put small stuff in there. I didn't know that until recently - just sharing my brilliant discovery.

2... I don't have the kit, but do I have a bottle of "slime" and a small compressor. There is an access panel on the right side interior panel (just like the one on the left under the power outlet in your photo). Pull off the panel and the compressor and slime bottle fit perfectly in there with room to spare. Totally hidden and out of the way until I need them (never!!).

3... Your trunk is far too neat. Compared to yours, mine looks like a dumpster!

All I have in my trunk are the 3 nets. Oh, and a bottle of Meguiar's Quik Detailer and some microfiber towels.

Maybe we should start a thread "show me what's in your boot".

Oh yeah, I meant to say "boot" and not "trunk." My bad!

I bought a 2010 MCS in mid December and just yesterday got around to putting the cargo nets in place. I also only have one side triangular piece and the bottom rectangular piece. I shot an e-mail to my MA and he astounded me with the following response:

"On the cargo nets. MINI made several small cutbacks or cost saving measures that went into effect this year. One was eliminating one of the cargo nets. Another was or will be to eliminate one of the cords that raises and lowers the privacy screen in the boot. They also are doing away with the memory seats on the passenger side. When the bulletin first came out I thought, how cheap is that! My manager said those small things can really add up at the end of the year...I think its just cheap."

I have to agree. It's just cheap. That can't save BMW more than a few measley dollars per car on an already premium priced small car. I know I'm probably nitpicking but I think that's just ridiculous, especially for an OCD (not really) person like myself who likes things to be symmetrical!

If they continue at this rate, it's going to cost $25k to just get four wheels, two bumpers, and a steering wheel, with everything else optional.

I really hope this trend doesn't continue...

Jealous! Interested in parting with one of the triangular ones?

Or anyone else for that matter. I know some people don't use their nets so I'd be interested in picking one of the side ones up from someone.

I like the nets, it's the privacy screen that drives me nuts...keep bumping my head on it....

Welcome to the World of MINI...or at least Today's Version. They cut the most convient things out, but expect us to want to pay a Premium for these cars.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my Molly, but I find it implorable that minute by minute on the assembly line things were *ooops* not installed on cars.

For me it was the Lower Door Seal Gasket (Apr 08), where not so much water gets in when they are installed, but plenty gets in if they are missing. I paid to have these installed since I'm OCD about my MINI!!

Another example...Chrome Line Interior, the Speaker Rings were left off, but on pg. 67 of the Optional Accessories Manual it clealy states that they are there. I had the Dealer install these Gratis!!

And yet another Dubious example...from what I am told, if you did not order your car with the Factory Alarm, but want to add it later "NO Dice", the wiring has been nixed from the Build Sheet.

I went back to my dealer a few weeks ago, the sales guy I bought from wasn't in that day and the rest were busy. I walked into to service, told them about the missing cargo net, and they took one out of one of the cars on the showroom floor and gave it to me.

So now the the purchaser of that one will be out of luck...
