East coast snow storm

Hey everybody. I was wondering if anyone else was driving in the snow storm that happened over the last couple days? I got caught driving from Asheville, NC to Newark, NJ.

Oh yes. We got about 18-20" here. I got the car cleaned off this morning and went out to breakfast with the fiance. Finally got to put my new snow wheels/tires to the test. They are MUCH better than the factory runflats - accelerating, braking, turning. Not as good as some of my previous Subarus (esp. with snow tires on them) but still way better than before. Money well spent.

A friend of mine drive from Philly to St. John's Island, SC (I think) in the storm. Took her 27 hours. I would have just waited!

The mini just rested through the weekend and enjoyed the snow.

I ran out of cigarettes and went out around 6:30 am Sunday morning.

225/45 Toyos, fully lowered - the summer setup.

Oh my.

No other traffic, and the roads were well scraped so the 1.75" ground clearance was not an issue.

It certainly is educational to drive with essentially no traction. Every move with a feather touch, fingertips searching for feedback from the wheel, feet just brushing the pedals.

I made it, anyway.

Silly bugger.

I drove yesterday and it was fine... drove into work this AM and DC had not cleared all the roads around work so it got a little exciting. Car handles well but I was driving in snow that was scraping the underside of the car. Kept it in 2nd and the dsc on, I am impressed with how well the car does (and I have all season tires).

I drove 700 miles (roughly 10 hours) out to North Carolina on thursday to pick up my cousin from school. Of course, friday morning, they got there first snow down there. Then we had to drive back through that madness. We left at 10:30 AM and didn't get back to Jersey until 5:30 the next morning. Virginia was a disaster.

And BTW, we only got a dusting (literally) in the Lake Champlain Valley of Vermont - not gloating, I know it's coming...

On the flip side, I'm watching the ice continue to creep across the bay (across the road from me); it's out about 50-75 feet this morning - talk at the car club meeting last Tuesday about how some of us are coming on our "super-stud" ice racing tires ...
