I have been getting emails from new owners asking if the kit is still available. I have plenty of kits and have been shipping 3-4 per week.

For the MINI owner that is unsure how to add the Rear Foglight/Brake Light Modification I have the solution for you. If you want to use the upper light for additional brake lights you need to jumper the wires at each tail light. My kit includes a jumper for each side made of 14 gauge automotive grade wire with quick splices for easy connection. I have installed a 3amp diode in the wire to allow the Rear FogLights to work with the toggle on the console if you have it installed and enabled. If you are unsure of how to do this mod or do not know where to get the parts this is the answer.

The kit includes;
2 jumpers

Complete detailed instructions with color photos.

My toll free phone number for installation support.

The kit is selling for $14.00 which includes shipping via USPS priority mail, which means you get your kit usually within 3 days after I recieve your payment. I saw on the site here that someone just paid the dealer $45.00 for this very mod.

I will offer discounts to groups on orders of 10 or more that are shipped to the same address.

If you are interested please email me at minirolls@msn.com

You can aso just shove some 10 gauge wire into holes 1 and 4 and get the same result for pennies. Been working on mine for over a year now!

does this kit allow for independent rear fog light use, as well as doubling as an added brake light when not in use as a fog light.

Yes, with the diode installed into the wire you get the full function of the Rear Fog Lights.

Here is how the lights will work;

Rear foglight switch "OFF" press brake both the brake light and upper foglight illuminated.

Rear foglight switch "ON" upper rear foglight illuminated. Brake light off. (Note if you just use a wire, paperclip or something without the diode; the brake light will be illuminated.) When you step on the Brake it does not affect the upper rear foglight as it already has power from the switch.

Since the diode is soldered into the wire there is no fear of the doide coming out of the wire and I use autimotive grade grade heat shrink, with quick splices.

....personally, I'll pay a reasonable amount to make a clean, permanant alteration to my car anytime...I wanna drive a mini mouse, not a micky mouse

seriously though, love the idea--I'll order soon as I get my fog light kit. Jenni

How is the foglight switch 'enabled"? Does this mean
the rear fogs go on when you turn on the front fog lights??
Thanks.

No, the rear foglights are additonal switch on the toggle panel.

This kit works with the rear fog lights. If you have the rear fog lights enabled the lights will come on with the rear foglight switched on. If you have installed a brake light mod without the diodes and have the rear foglights when you turn on the rear foglights it will also turn on your brake lights.

Can you show some pics maybe for people who can't envision this completely? Maybe a before and after, if available... What it would look like...

Just thought it might help some people

I didn't take pics when I did it, but to help you envision it, basically what you do is open the panel in the boot that gives access to each light (simple plastic tab), then reach in and pull the wiring harness out of each light (another simple plastic tab, just a bit trickier because you can't really see it while your hand is stuck in there), and then crimp one end of the device pictured above onto each of two wires, creating an electrical connection between them. It just brings the upper bulb into the circuit when you hit your brakes.

It's EASY, I promise! And I have no electrical experience whatsoever...

If you are looking to see what the lights look like with the upper lights look close at the center picture in sig. The upper are light are on and it was a bright sunny day.

And like Chris said it is really easy and I have made even easier since Chris got his kit. The kit has color photos in the instruction and the quick splices are number as to which wire they go on. The only thing that would make it easier is if I were close by to put them on.

Thanks Chris.......

I consider this modification so important to added safety that I am offering it free of charge including installation to anyone attending a Birmingham Area MINI Association event or any other event that I attend.

Less than 50 cents in parts and 2 minutes of my time is something I can afford to give the MINI community in my area. For the rest of you that cannot make it to Alabama for the free mod, get your's from mini-rolls.

Edit: my "free" version does not include the diodes that mini-rolls includes for the use of the additional fog light mod if installed.

Thanks Yucca. I to feel tht this modification is something that each and every MINI should have, and if a person can do it themselves that is great but for those that are a little unsure this will ease their mind. But I put a lot more than 50 cents into this kit. Shipping to anywhere in the states via USPS priority mail is included in the cost. The kit has the diode soldered into 14 gauge auto grade wire and automotive grade quick splices for easy install. I have taken them to local MINI meets and I always runout of kits before I run out of MINIs to install them on. Once the first one is on everyone wants one. I also provide a toll-free number for assistance and support with each kit. If anyone has any trouble they can just give me a call. Trust me I am not getting rich on these kits, I think it is just something that an average person that owns a MINI can do themselvews and it requires no special skills and gives a sense a safety with the additional lights when braking.

I have gotten a few emails asking if the kits are still available.

I do have kits and will produce them as long as there is demand.

Thanks Mini Rolls! :

The mod works just as you said, and I'm happy to know that when I step on the brake, my rear really lights up! (except when my rear fogs are already on and bright, then my regular brake lights light up, still giving a flash and warning)

The kit is clean and neat--doesn't feel mickey mouse (or mini mouse, even )

Great mod--inexpensive for the easy directions and dummy proof wiring.
I'm surprised the car doesn't come with this already!!!

A great way to spend those gift bucks somebody gave ya!Happy motoring to all and to all a goodnite

jmoser,

Thanks for the comments. I am glad everything went well and you like the ability to have the rear brakes and rear fog lights working off the same bulbs.

Sorry for the late reply but I have been away for a little while.

I am heading to Miami next week and I am posting the Sunshine Mini's website a chance to get a kit while I am in Miami.

mini-rolls,
Does your kit work any differently for the white MINI tail lights?
What happens if you insert the jumpers into plugs 1 and 5 and not 1 and 4?
Let me know what you find out.
Thanks

Hi Minihune,

I just looked my test lights (which are the stock lights) and the #5 slot is the power for the taillights. If you hooked this kit up to the #5 wire the upper light would be powered. However since the buld into top is same brightness as the brake light it would brighter than the tail light.

Is the #5 wire on the white light powering something different? For me to verify I would need to see a set of the white light and look at the wire run to see what they are powering.

Regarding white tail lights and the brake light mod:

If you have the white lights installed (or do this yourself) there are some things to consider. The white light kit comes with a relay and wiring harness that gets installed under the dashboard and into both kick panels. This extra wiring provides the same function as the brake light mod (diode or not). That is, the upper parts of the white tail lights come on with the brakes. However, this supplied harness precludes the use of the rear fog lights. The reason is that the relay functions much like the jumper would, and will not let the fogs operate independently of the brake lights. If the fog lights were to be enabled and turned on, the relay would encounter a 'latch-up' condition where the fogs (along with the brake lights) would be stuck on and unable to be shut off with the toggle (you have to shut off the car). ALl is not lost however...

If you plan on installing the white lights, install the lenses and the third brake light, but do NOT install the harness. Instead, install the diode brake light mod. You will get the proper operation of the brake lights, but will be able to have independent control of the upper section as rear fogs.

If you already had the white lights installed by the dealer, or by yourself and you have installed the wiring harness, simply remove the relay from the harness (leave everything else in place) and do your favorite version of the diode mod (the relay is hidden inside the driver's side kick panel, which will have to be removed or pulled back for access).

This should allow the brake light mod (a 'standard feature' of the white lights) to work with rear fogs, as well as nullifying the factory bulletin which says the two are not compatible with one another.

On the 2400 km trip home from Classic Mini with stock rear fog lights installed, I did mini-rolls's brake light mod kit in the parking lot of an antique store in Fremont, Nebraska.

Worked great. The total install took me about 30 minutes. 27 minutes for the driver's side, then 3 for the passenger side. Took me and my "man hands" a while to get the procedure down right.

Now I love the way the whole rear end of the Mini lights up when I step on the brakes! Thanks mini-rolls.

I have Dave's brake light mod installed. Now I'm thinking of adding the rear fog light kit. But I am concerned that when I take it to the dealer to get activated they may notice the mod and nab me for voiding my warranty. Is that an issue or am I being paranoid?
Should I remove the mod first? can I remove the mod or is it permanent?
