R56 when you pass another mini do you wave !!!!
when you pass another mini do you wave !!!!
is there not a code of conduct for us mini owners .....every time i see another mini i normally give a nod or a wave but i never seem to get a responce, is it just me !! or does anyone else get the cold shoulder.............
I think a lot of people these days are buying MINI's mainly for the mileage and not for the culture or experience.. I've seen several around my area and only 1 or 2 consistently wave at me. I make a point to wave at all of them though!
Most other MINI drivers that I see on the road don't even notice another MINI is near them. Once in awhile I'll get a nod but that's it. I waved at one MCS a couple of weeks ago and the driver waved back but I could see by his expression that he was trying to tell if ne knew me or not.

No. No, man. ****, no, man. I believe you'd get your *** kicked doin' something like that, man.

It depends on my location. If I am downtown, NOBODY waves...I've tried.
Once I leave the metro area, I start getting waves back. The further away I get, the greater ratio of drivers wave, but MINI's get sparce the further out you go.

Why people do not wave
Traffic in this days is so intensive and stressful ( rush hour NYC an example) that MINI drivers simply do not have that luxury of split second distraction. I am sure they would wave if they are not so occupied. I was stuck for a while today at WTC Friday traffic and even big truckers gave me thumbs up from above ( saw in rear mirror). Too much attention needed to keep MINI scratch-free so old fashioned wave gotta wait. It may even be misinterpreted by others as a sign language ( happened before)
Just an observation...

I used to get wave-returns a year ago.. not any more though.. somehow, a lot of senior citizen - MINI drivers popped up in my area over the past few months.. they barely notice another MINI passing by..!
Yes I wave, I get a return wave about 1 out of 4. Sometimes I think the lack of return is that they simply do not have time because of traffic. I am a senior citizen and I notice all other MINIs. My chief group of "ignorers" is college age girls. But of course moost have a cell phone at the ear.
Yep, wave all the time, and actually get a wave back probably 75% of the time! But I'm 150 miles from a dealership, so we're more rare around here...that probably has a lot to do with it. I'm guessing only those of us that are "into" the MINI have them...as no one else would want the hassle of very long drives for service!
I blame the fact that more minis are being bought by non-enthusiasts, etc. I always notice every single other mini, and look and hope they wave or nod.
So far, new clubman, and I think 1 nod/wave out of 3 minis I passed on the first drive back from the dealer; since then, no waves and I think I've passed or been stopped next-to 3 minis :-(
Winter/darkness might be a reason, too, but I also can't imagine a fellow mini driver can miss a bright red clubman!

what about flashing the highbeams. they might take the signal for something else tho, like cops or something, but i think most mini owners would realize someone was trying to say "hi".
does anyone flash the highbeams to oncoming minis?

In bad weather I usually flash my highbeams.... In good clear days I wave until my hand falls off.. But of course you get the blank stare. Guess Mini's have become common place..But Im still going to wave.
Damn I love this car and the people that drive them.

I'll never forget, when I got mine two years ago I was so excited the first few months to see another MINI. I had my best friend in the car with me, and we are in stop and go traffic. I see another MINI a few cars ahead in the lane beside me, so I keep hoping we'll get up there so I can wave. My girlfriend thinks that this other driver will think I'm bat **** crazy. I finally get up beside the mini, and I'm waving very enthusiastically. My friend was floored when the girl in the other MINI seems just as excited to see another MINI.
It made my day.

In & around MAD-Town only about 30% wave back.
