New 2010 owner few quesions

hi all just introduced myself in another thread and have a few questions about my 2010 MCS. Everything is all good with the car but i cannot get the car to honk its horn when locking and unlocking the car. I am very good with directions and having looked over the manual about using the obc. In the manual it says that there are 4 options lights, horn, lights and horns and finally off. After playing with the computer i only have the options of off and lights. I have the Manual but there are no references for 2010. i am wondering if they gave me an old manual and deleted this option for 2010. Thanks in advance for all the help

From what I understand the '07s and '08s shared a Manual, I'm thinking the '09s and '10s do the same.

As for you problem with the Audibe Locking, you've got the basic concept, but if you look on pg. 21 of your manual you will see that it describes how to activate each feature. Once you've selected the "open" lock symbol hold in the button on the left stalk, this should give you the other options for 'Unlocking', Hazard Warning Flasher lights up, an Acoustic Signal, Hazard Warning Flashers light up and an but I've been where you are...I however didn't understand that the engine needed to be running for access to all of the OBC options available.

Good Luck!!

didn't have an "audible" option as well. from other threads if i'm remembering correctly, this is a known non-feature. keeps our mini's courteously quiet. with the factory alarm, you get an ear-piercing electronic chirp.

[Jedi mind control on]You do not want your car to honk the horn when you lock it. This is extemely annoying to people around you. Listen for the sound of the locks activating. It is all you need.[/Jedi mind control off]

If you have Xenons, you don't want the headlights to flash. Flashing Xenons is hard on the ignighter, and they are expensive to replace.

To have the audio option on locking/unlocking the doors, gotta have the alarm system. And the chirp from it isn't "ear-piercing", but it is louder than it needs to be.

Yep you need the alarm to make it beep when you lock it. My 09 Clubbie didn't have an alarm so it wouldn't do it. I just listen for the the loud door lock.

Interesting find,

The '10 Minis are not prewired from the factory for the alarm, and as such, it can't be installed by the dealer. Another cost saving measure, along with only one rope to hole up the rear parcel shelf.

As said, if you didn't order the alarm from the factory, you won't be able to honk the horn.

Mini has said they are working on how to install the alarm.

Yes regardless of stock or aftermarket, flashing HIDs is not good for them. They are meant to be ignited and brought up to temperature. If you light them up then immediately take the electricity away and shut them off they are not operating as they are most intended for. Then if you flash them again it does not help at all. The gasses and crystals in the glass bulb do prefer to be turned on and kept ignited for some time to the proper temperature (only a matter of seconds, but not fractions of a second). It isn't the end of the world, but remeted activites lie this is seen as abuse to the bulb and its crystallized salt mixture.

The alarm doesn't flash the headlights, it flashes the parking lights.

Just changed the settings to flash the lights on our 2010. The Xenons do NOT flash, all 4 TURN SIGNAL HAZARDS flash. Which are pretty bright.

And the park lights illuminate.
